Smash Up is a new style of "Shufflebuilding" game. Players take two 20-card faction decks, shuffle them together, and start competing to smash bases! However, each faction has a different mechanical focus, and each combination brings unique play to the game. When the game begins, players take turns drafting one of several faction decks. Once each player has two decks, they shuffle them together, combining their distinct abilities into a unique 40-card deck. Players then deal out a number of Base cards, and play their decks to attempt to have the most power on a base when it is scored.

It may sound simple, but how simple is it when your opponent's Zombie-Ninja Assassinate your minions then create an Outbreak, loading the Base with minions from their discard pile? Or when their Pirate-Dinosaurs Full Sail onto the base with the mighty King Rex, whose massive power dwarfs that of other minions?

Each combination gives a different experience, Pirate-Aliens play very different than Pirate-Zombies, and with 8 factions in the base set there are tons of combinations to try out!

Great game with ton os options to give this game longevity on your table
A great card game with a plethora of replay ability. There are a bunch of decks right out of the box and have quite a few expansions to expand your gameplay. I would consider this at or just above a gateway game into the hobby, a nice step up from big box store games without getting too heavy. I personally love this one and it sees our table pretty regularly.

A cost effective game that doesn't get old
This game is a lot of fun. On it's own the base set offers enough variety by mixing different factions with different bases to keep things feeling fresh for a long time. The expansions run for under $15 currently so even if you're feeling like you need a bit more variety the cost is minimal. For the low price the product is high quality. There's no need to worry about the cards wearing out prematurely if you're not a fan of card sleeves and the box has more than enough room to contain the game plus a couple expansions. My wife and I have two small children and the game is quick enough to set up and play that we're able to fit a couple games in during nap time or after the kids go to bed when we want a game night with just the two of us.

It's a "smash hit".
We love this game! Smash Up is one of the games played most often at our house. It is fun to play with the family and easy to learn. Replay-ability is awesome! We like to "draft" by rolling dice and giving face down decks a number to randomize what we play each time.

Great Gateway Card Game
Smash Up is a great game to get people into playing card games, plus it's genuinely fun to play regardless of your experience level. Every gamer should have a copy of this on their shelf, and preferably a few expansions to boot.

Greatest Game ever? MOSTLY!
I put off buying this game for MONTHS. Then one day on a whim picked it up at a local hobby store. Man I regret missing out on those months I could have been playing this. Kind of like a deck builder but without all the setup and add a gratuitous amount of chaos. Infinite amount of replayability with even more replayability past infinite with all of the even more amazing expansions, beyond simple rules, literally just do what the card tells you, it practically plays itself, fast stupid mind raging game play. Are you going to get that base? You are going to get that base. You got that base. SHINOBI! You didn't get that base. WHHAAATTTT!!!!!!
On a very real note. The game is great. It offers so many ways to play without ever feeling old or repetitive. And for as simple as it plays out, offers a great deal of on the fly strategy.
10/10 Must own for every type of table gamer. It will never let you down.

Good fun with silly combinations
Simple and entertaining little game. It does lose some of its luster over time, but you will get a good number of plays out of it before you get bored of seeing the same cards over and over again. Fortunately AEG has solved that issue by releasing several expansions.

Great game - Different every time you play
This is such a great game. You get to mix up 2 different types of decks and square off against some insane opponents. Alien Dinosaurs? You betcha! Ninja Pirates? Of course!

While the base game is fun, I recommend getting all the expansions. They make it all the more fun.

Fun game with lots of replayability
I love Smash Up. My group plays this fairly regularly, sometimes as the main game for the night, and sometimes just as a palate cleanser after a really complicated strategy game.

We've come up with some variations on the rules, including team play and draft modes. I think we'll be playing this one for a long, long time. I highly recommend it. (I also recommend picking up some sleeves for them. Ultra Pro sleeves for magic cards fit fine in the original box, Dragon Shields are a little snug. If you get the Big Geeky Box expansion, then either fit great.)

My only gripe with the game, is that once you add in the expansions, a few of the deck combinations get a little too strong. For example, Zombies and Geeks feels nearly broken, and our group frowns on someone taking them together.

Great Game
I had domoed it at Gen Con but was unable to play a full game until now. Great fun! I really enjoy it and would recommend it to anyone. It lets you fulfill all those nerdy questions about what armies might be the best. Each army is it's own design with it's own possibilities.

Excellent Game
The game play, set up, and concepts of this game are simple yet strategies can very greatly from game to game due to the many faction combinations and multitude of base cards that have their own abilities. The base game can play up to 4 players but with the expansions you could theoretically add a 5th or 6th player although this game is best played with 3 or 4 players.

A fun, lighthearted romp full of fictional clichés with a lot of heart!
Smash Up is lighthearted game for 2 to 4 players. Players select from a pool of iconic factions, mix two of them together to make a deck, and then compete to smash bases in order to win points.

The rules are simple, gameplay is fast and fun, and the artwork is very thematic and comedic. The game is better played with 3 or 4 players but still works with 2.

My only gripe is that there isn't a very good way of organizing the play area during a bigger game. The base cards are laid out on the table and players play their cards next to the bases. Smaller tables become crowded quickly and in a 4 player game there are 5 bases on the table and it can get a bit chaotic with cards being played on all four sides of the base cards.

Smash Up is a lighthearted romp through fictional clichés with a lot of heart. The mixing of the different factions creates a ton of replay value, especially if you start mixing in some of the great expansions that are available for the game. This is one of our favorite games when we have a game night with a smaller group.
