Awesome game at a great price
I really love this game. It can be a little tricky to get everything set up and going for new players, but it's so much fun once you get going and understand the rules. I highly recommend miniature market for their price on the starter set. I have two because of the great value.

Great core set
This core set provides everything, well almost as Vader is not on it, that an SW fan wants in a tabletop game. It is fun to play and the missions are cool.

Only keep in mind that more ships will be needed for a good experience.

Great Starter Set
I picked up two of these to play the game with my 13 year old son. We have had a blast right from the start. It requires a couple play-throughs to really understand the rules, but once you get the hang of it, you can't stop! We've picked up a few expansions now through Miniature Market, and you can't beat their prices. Great value, and a fantastic game from Fantasy Flight!

Good, but you may want to check the updated "Force Awakens" product first.
This is the first Core Set for the X-Wings Miniatures game. It was designed as the entry point to the game, and this core set contains everything you’ll need to play the game on a very limited basis. This set comes with 1 X-Wing (it is a model T-65, more on this later) and 2 Tie Fighters. Additionally, it also includes the dice, tokens, and templates that are required to play the game with any future expansions you may purchase.

The standard X-wing play mode is “100 Points”. Each Ship, pilot, and upgrade in the X-Wing Miniatures games has a point value. By combining these different resources and upgrades, you can eventually build a 100 point squad. The Core set does not come with enough ships/cards to play a standard 100 point game. If you’d like to play competitively, or even casually in the standard and most common mode of play, additional expansions will need to be purchased to meet the 100 point build.

This year, a 2nd core set “X-Wing the Miniatures Game: The Force Awakens” was released. The new core set comes with new versions of both the X-Wing (now a T-70 Model) and 2 new Tie fighters. Additionally, the damage decks and upgrades are improved in the new core set. The new X-Wing in the Force Awakens core set (Model T-70) is designed to play competitively in today’s game, while the T-65 included in this original set is outdated by the games current standards.

While I love this core set, and it is fun, I highly recommend only purchasing this set over the Force Awakens if you are a collector, a completionist, or a casual gamer who prefers the original trilogy ships and pilots over the expanded universe and new films. The Force Awakens set is the better purchase if you are new or looking to play in a competitive setting.

Due to the ships in this original core being out dated by newer expansions, and the fact that you can’t use this set to build a 100pt squad (standard play), I have reduced the value score of this product. I think it’s a good purchase, and a lot of fun, but the newer core set is the better option until Fantasy Flight Games releases upgrades that specifically address the T-65 X-Wing’s short comings.

great game
this game is alot of fun and easy to learn. What I love best is that the piloting/maneuvering aspect of the game is very important. Anticipating your opponents move is crucial in regards to the outcome of the game. Flying the ships are just as important if not more than the ship and pilot abilities. Highly recommend this game. Ships are affordable and thankfully there are no unique or special ships that are over priced.

Good Introduction to this Fun Game
In terms of gameplay, this game is very good. What I like most about it is that it is simple to learn yet requires strategic thinking to master. What I like least about it is the amount of maneuvering that is necessary and the sometimes arcane upgrade card combos that appear in competitive play.

Quality-wise, these figures are top-notch. They are very well sculpted and painted. The sculpts actually resemble the ships from the Star Wars movies. One thing I would add is that FFG's Customer Service is very helpful, so in the unlikely event you get a dud figure, FFG will usually replace it for free.

The price for this game is decent. You will only get a taste of this game with this core set. The matchup of 2x TIE Fighter vs. 1x X-Wing will get stale quickly, requiring you to get expansions. However, the price for this core set isn't too bad compared to the cost of other games. The price of expansions is also mostly reasonable (around $10 for smaller expansions and $30 for bigger ones).

The value for this set is good. Here, you get 3 ships + dice + tokens + cards. Just the three ships alone is worth around $30 if bought separately (and the core set includes pilot cards that are unique to the core set).

All in all, I recommend this item. 4.5/5.

JOIN THE (D0G)FIGHT - MAKE SURE YOU BUY TWO
I'm just going to go right ahead and say it: X-Wing Miniatures is THE best product of it's kind on the market today. OK, I know that's a controversial thing to say and not everyone will agree, but as an avid wargamer I've played a lot a different games over the years, and this is the only one I've come across that gets everything right.
The game mechanics are are a work of genius. Even if you're completely new to tabletop gaming it won't take you long to learn how ships move, shoot and take damage, and the templates used for moving and shooting help the game flow very smoothly. However, that's not to say it lacks depth, planning you're movement requires you to think ahead and second guess your opponent to line up the best shots, meaning that even if you're just playing with the stripped down 'quick-start' rules its tactically challenging and fun. 'Easy to learn, difficult to master' is certainly an apt description of this game.
Then there's the miniatures themselves. They are outstanding! The level of detail is very high and each one comes pre-painted and ready to use, so unlike nearly every other game of its type X-Wing Miniatures requires no craft knives, clippers, glue or paint to get started (of course, if you really want to you can repaint your ships for that personal touch). Similarly, the cards and other accessories that come with the game are well laid out and feature stunning artwork, which all comes together to make the who gaming experience aesthetically very pleasing.
Then, the factor that really ties it all together: ITS STAR WARS! Not only is the game set in a universe which most people know and love (making it instantly more accessible than a lot of tabletop games), it actually *feels* like Star Wars when you play!
However, one thing I would recommend if you really want to get into this game is to get two of the core sets, Not only will it give you more ships to play with (at a lower cost than buying them separately), but you'll also have a spare rule book, counters and templates just in case you lose something, plus as many dice as you will ever need.

Amazing 2v2 combat game set in Star Wars universe.

I tried and failed to use it with casual players, bcs of it's complexity, but for hardcore gamers that get draged into this, it provides withenless strategy and possibilities to mix and mash!

X-wing comunities are big around he Globe, but the "movement" is just getting heated up! There are Store, Regional, National and World tournaments with loads of people playing the game.

Try it, but try more than a base game...

This game will ruin your life, but you won't care.
The obvious starting point is that the models are extremely well modeled, and rightly so as access to the original filming props used in A New Hope were used to 3d model these miniatures. For the veteran tabletop gamer, the price for what you get is astounding. 3 pre-painted miniatures including everything you need to play the game for only $40? Compared to Warhammer 40K, that's an absolute steal. For the uninitiated, even, $40 for an indepth board game with an endless supply of expansions is definitely palatable as well.

Everyone who i've gotten to play X-Wing with me was hooked on the spot. It's intoxicating, it really is. Buy this game. You won't regret it.

Amazing Game - Expansion Heavy
Fantasy Flight provides an amazing miniatures combat game based in the Star Wars universe. With the core, 2 players duke it out as a Rebel X-Wing and Imperial TIE Fighters (2). Miniature details and component is top notch (can we expect anything less of FFG?) and includes Luke and Biggs as pilots for the Rebellion. The Core includes everything you need to get started.

My only gripe with this Core Set is that it only contains just enough stuff to get you started. The mechanics are excellent, but there is something to be said about not being able to get the "full" game experience without having to pick up expansions. While, yes, you can play a game out of the box, the possible (viable) combinations are very limited and may become stale fairly quick. FFG includes missions to keep it fresh, but these are also limited to 3 in the core. This means that if you like the game, you will be buying expansions - and boy does FFG have some amazing expansions to offer! It does add up (most expansions cost $10-15), but each expansions adds pilot variety and upgrades.

Quite simply, an amazing game with amazing mechanics. Fun to play!

Perfect Game for a Star Wars Fan
This is the game that introduced me to FFG or Fantasy Flight Gaming, and it has been a wonderful journey since buying it. This game encapsulates perfectly the idea of dog fighting in space with star fighters. It is a game that rewards skill through maneuvering and planning out how to build you squad, and luck through the attack and defense dice as well as the critical effect damage cards. This box includes both Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 allowing you to play out your Star Wars star fighter based fantasies.

If you are a fan of Star Wars and the Galactic Civil War period this is the game for you as some of your favorite ships, pilots, heroes and villains all participate in a galactic dog fight. I can't recommend this product enough, even with the new Episode 7 version of the starter set.

really fun game
Have played many tabletop minis games over the years, but this has quickly become a favorite. Games are fast but tactical. You can try out new lists easily and with so many options available it doesn't become predictable. As other reviews have noted, there is a new starter set out for the new TFA models. However, this set is still a good deal just for the included minis. Plus there are some unique pilots/upgrades in this set. you'll need an extra pack of dice anyway, so best option is buy one of each starter and have some extra templates spare. Highly recommend this game system, really fun.

Awesome fun, hope your not poor.
If you have a buddy to play with this game is fantastic. While this is just the starter pack be prepared to spend considerably more money as you get into this. I am not complaining but it is a fact. Some people say to buy two starter packs but I would recommend one of these and one of the new "the force awakens" starter sets. Different ships different mods and pilots and you still get the extra dice (which really aren't extra as you will use them) along with all the other items that come in the sets. Again fantastic game, but be prepared as you will probably buy everything of a faction in the first month or so if you get the bug. Fly casual.

Great Game
The original boxed set rules have been superseded by The Force Awakens box set, but this is still a great value. The miniatures are fantastic, with great details. Gameplay is fast, and fairly easy to learn. Small games can be played in 30 minutes or less, and it doesn't take hours to learn the rules.
The only reason I gave only 4 stars for quality is that the tokens and maneuver dials will likely wear as time goes by. It would have been better if Fantasy Flight Games had made those out of plastic instead of dense cardboard. But I suppose there are plenty of third party options to replace the original tokens, and there are ways to make the maneuver dials more wear-resistant.

Buy two core sets
Really look into buying two core sets rather than one. The benefit from buying an additional core set is that you get an additional pair of dice, upgrade cards, movement markers, tokens, etc. This allows for faster gameplay since you will not have to constantly swap dice and movement markers with your opponent. It's also a great deal because buying three ships individually is around the same price of another core set. Yet with the core set not only do you get three ships you get all the additional items previous mentioned.

Great Two Player Tactical Combat Game
X-wing is a great two player game, and this core set is the easiest entry. This is obviously just a little taste of the X-Wing universe, which is really where the depth of the game is realized. It is a simple game to start that adds various levels of complexity as you add more miniatures. All of the miniatures are great, and the core set will only keep you interested for a short time. If there is a downside to this game, it is that you will want to spend more money to really keep the game interesting.

Warning: Highly Addictive
I've been playing tabletop games for over 30 years. This game stands heads and shoulders above anything else I've ever played. It's three games in one. It's strategy. It's playing cards and it's rolling dice against each other.

The learning curve is small and the game is intuitive and draws you in. The iconic ships of Star Wars itself make you feel immersed in every maneuver you make, cheer every shot you hit and cringe with each point of damage you take. No doubt, this game will take up a great bit of time in your life, but it's a fantastic investment and at such a low price, how could you say no?

As a beginner, I thought that it would be better to just buy an extra pair of dice, and additional expansion pieces. NOT SO! This set comes with 3 figures, dice and everything else! It's a much better buy just to get them both. And in play, having lots of ties and x-wings are a must. Good thing though is that the new Force Awakens set is out, and I'll just get that to augment this one. I will say the X-wing is a little more prone to breaking due to the link for the base. We've had 2 and both have broken at the exact same spot. Buy some super glue

This is the game you're looking for
I am a Star Wars fan but not really a table top guy. This game changed that.

Not only is the Core Set essential--it's also a great deal at 3 ships for under $30. The missions included here really help you get a feel for the game, provided you have a little patience along the way. Most of my 100 point games last well beyond the advertised 45-60 minute mark. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just know that this game takes TIME.

There's also an incredible community out there. And Fantasy Flight Games keeps releasing new ships with no signs of backing down. They've just released the 7th Wave AND they've got another one on the way. Not to mention that they are now releasing ships from The Force Awakens.

You need two.
I highly recommend this game. The core set has everything you need to get started. But once you get started (and get hooked) you'll want to expand. Before buying expansion packs, I recommend buying a second core set. With two sets you will then have two X-wings and four Tie Fighters. Almost enough for a 100 point build for either faction and the extra dice needed so you won't need to re-roll a die on a four die attack or defence. The extra components are also nice to have as backup if something gets lost or damaged.

Perfect price point for a starter set.
X-Wing is an easy to learn tabletop miniatures game that can be enjoyed by children, star wars enthusiasts, casual gamers, hardcore gaming veterans, pretty much anyone and everyone.

This set comes with all of the tokens, damage cards, terrain, and templates needed to play X-Wing. It has dice, though you probably want to buy another pack of dice separately.

Here's where the selling point is. MSRP for the small ships is $14.95, MSRP for the Starter is $39.95. The starter comes with three ships... part of one ship is free, as well as all of the paper and cardboard and dice. Need I say more?

Best game Ive played in a very very long time.
WOW Do I love this game!!! MM's $27 price point is a steal!!! I have seen the ships and owned a few before I picked up the game so that I could collect some of the minis. My Edge of Empire game needed 4 tie fighters so I figured it was a no-brainer to buy this box as the cost of 2 tie's by themselves were almost as much.

I have played RPG's and the like for nearly 35 years now. This one was very well thought out- challenging and fast paced. Not overly complex but enough detail there for fans to sink their teeth into. The minis add to the stunning appeal to this game. The cards are all beautifully illustrated and the punchouts are solid and durable.

My 9 year old son plays with myself and my older 20 year old son and enjoys the game. If you have a kid who's interested in playing, and they are a little quick on the uptake, this game can be enjoyed by more than the suggested age range.

Just so much fun, this game is definitely my new gaming addiction. I cannot recall the last time I enjoyed a game this much.

Hands Down Most Bang For Your Buck Miniatures Game.
X-Wing is the miniatures game for casual types looking to get into tabletop. It's core rules mechanics are simple, while the ship/squad customization adds complexity for those looking for a more in-depth game. The pre-painted models are almost always high quality and need no modifications to look good on the tabletop. The tokens and cards are durable and the starter gives you everything you need to play. You do NOT need to make further purchases unless you want to expand the amount of ships and options at your disposal.

The downsides are that, personally, for a more "balanced" game you would do better to have two z-95's and two tie fighters paired up. This starter also does not do much for anyone wanting to start the scum and villiany faction. Additionally, it really doesn't come with enough dice so you end-up buying an extra dice pack.

As a new player to table top gaming, we really enjoy this one. The miniatures look fantastic and once you get the rules down it is a fun star wars adventure. If you are new to this game, be sure to carefully read the instruction book. I lightly read it thinking its thin and how hard could this be? Its all in the wording. The mechanics make sense and are easy enough to get the pattern after a few games. There is some strategy in this game and it isn't just all to the dice roll, which I like. Every session plays differently and it is possible to come up from behind to win the game in an epic battle.

Sense
This is a great game my favorite aspect is that when you buy a piece such as an X-wing or Tie fighter you get the low and high level versions so it is really easy to build the army YOU want to build no buying endless boosters or expensive unit packs to get the elite or common elements.

One of the best miniature games I've played
I have been playing X-wing for about a year now and it really is one of the best miniature games I've played. I have introduced a few friends of mine to the game and they enjoy it as well, two of them aren't even Star Wars fans. The models are well made, but you have to be careful with the X-wings, the laser canons are fragile, and that is my only complaint. The game is easy to pick up and hard to put down. And since Fantasy Flight has been putting out expansions pretty regularly, it keeps the game fresh.

Great Miniatures
The miniatures are awesome in this, and in the expansion packs. It's a shame they use cardboard for so many of the other game components. The gameplay is pretty good but a bit too Rock-Paper-Scissors. And (again) the reliance on cardboard makes this more a board game than a miniatures game

Great Miniatures
This is a great game. With the base set you are ready to play with a friend. The rules a re very simple and you can start playing within ten minutes. You can also make the game more difficult by adding pilot skills and scenarios for the game.

The minis are really great quality. Very detailed and decent paint. Very fun.

Ideal for any fan
The game is excellent! There are levels of rules you can add in to adjust complexity as you get more proficient and the depth is actually fun! Gameplay is fast and engaging with miniatures that are the most faithful to the source material I have ever seen. If you're a fan of the films and a lover of table top games, this is great fun for all!

INCREDIBLE
Worth every cent especially with MM's great prices, it's fast paced, fun, easy to play but difficult to master, and very exciting! Must pick up.

Most Impressive
I have been demo playing this game for a few weeks now and even with the rules simplified the gameplay is fun and exciting. Everyone has rally enjoyed this game - the combination of strategy and luck and great models make this a fun game to build on - rules can be added on in levels to make each game unique and interesting. More ships=more fun.

Fantastic Game with Fantastic Minis
This game is a lot of fun to play. You are not bogged down with record-keeping but at the same time the game is not overly simplistic either. The minis look great and all but the X-wing laser cannons are sturdy. The rules are fairly simple to learn but the game has tactical depth once you start playing larger battles. This game strikes that perfect balance of depth and fun!

Thought I heard the Tie fighters coming
Played a demo at Origins - Had 3 tie fighters in my wing - when we hit the 5 speed curve coming in I'd swear I heard the sound effect from the movie! Great to play Easy to learn - the GM walked away and we just kept going. love the ability to balance the play almost to the single point. The mechanics are great - no more "sliding " minis when you move - I bought the base set and some expansions - gonna see how it works with 8 players.

Simply stunning production values! The game play is fun and compelling, Great for beginners of miniatures games and great for veteran players as well. The balance of the ships in game play is perfect, really fun and great looking. No draw backs to this one, get your self a copy even if you're only a little interested.

May the force be with you
Great game for any person that loves the Star Wars universe. Great appeal to both young and older players. Very easy to learn and the product is high quality. The only downside is the trouble in finding single ships.

Great Value and Great Fun
I think this game is amazing and since I have opened it I have played numerous matches. My only hope is that the starter box came with more ships right away, but then again that is probably just marketing.

Starting my attack run
Tried a few other miniature games like Heroclix and Mage Knight and was never a huge fan. Been a long time MtG player, about 13 years. Seen this about a month ago. Got it, tried it with a friend and I love it! I am now in the process of selling off my entire collection of mtg to help fund this new obsession. I hope this continues to be a successful product for FFG as I am looking forward to more future products from this line. Some find it pricey, but consider the price of about 6 packs of the TCG of your choice compared to the amount and quality of materials you get with this or the expansions. Great value, loads of fun. Looking forward to more and more goodness from FFG and X-Wing!

Very enjoyable game
We played our first game and everyone enjoyed the strategy of waiting on the opponent until all movement was revealed. This is a great game that brings the luck of the dice back into play. I finally invested in this game, which I thought is a great buy and will invest in the expansion sets as well; just wish Fantasy Flight Games would come out with expansions faster.

Good Game
Fun game that really has an easy learning curve. Game comes with simple rules that most people can pick up on right away. Has a few more rules that you can apply later to add to the depth and strategy. Miniatures are very finely detiled and painted and cards are of very high quality. On top of all that, you can purchase more ships (that come complete with all the appropriate pieces) and expand the battles. The only reason I marked down the value is because I feel that the clear plastic figure stands are a little cheap. However, aside from that, this game is great and I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of strategy type games.

Great Fun Game
Me and my friends played our first game using the quick start rules, but with a twist we used the new release ships. The rebels had the x-wing and the y-wing vs the imperial tie fighter, tie inteceptor, and advanced tie. We all play numerous miniature games but really enjoyed the new movement rules. I recommend it to anyone that is a Star Wars fan and likes miniature games.
