Essential for TIE swarms
While it has fallen out of favor lately, the swarm of TIE Fighters is an iconic part of Star Wars space battles. Utilizing their combined firepower to make up for their individual weakness, the swarm can batter through even the most potent defenses through sheer number of dice rolls. While the Core set does give two fighters and with all the other stuff is a better deal (since you will need more dice than there are in a single set), this expansion does offer one fantastic reason to get it: Howlrunner. The leader of the squadron pursuing the Falcon from Cloud City, Howlrunner is one of the best TIE Fighter pilots in the Empire. Her ability improves every ship that stays close to her by letting them reroll an attack dice. Since the TIE swarm is essentially playing a game of dice attrition (hoping your opponent gets bad luck enough times to destroy him/her), being able to potentially reroll a die with every single attack is incredible.

There are a few other pilots as well with decent abilities but are hampered by the generally weak abilities of the TIE Fighter (but cheap enough to be filler if needed).

Go Ahead and Buy 3 or 4
What you're probably gonna wanna do is buy a few of these and run Howlrunner and Swarm Tactics. By themselves these guys aren't too much of a hassle but can be a real headache for your opponent if you run several. Experiment with other types of TIE as well, like Defenders and Punishers.

Simply the best
Not flashy, not special but the base TIE is probably the best all around performer in x-wing. For a ship that was included in the base set the TIE is still at a the forefront of competitive play. The swarm tactic is still viable and there is no better point filler than a base academy tie.

Every Imperial player needs a good 3-7 of these ships. Purchase a few of these sets, you're going to need them!

Great Pilot Additions
The model itself is the same as the ones that come in the Core Set. You want to buy this expansion for the unique pilot cards that come with it! Howlrunner is the perfect complement for those who want to fly a tight TIE formation, as it adds the ability for any friendly ship in range 1 to reroll an attack die. Backstabber adds another great ability, allowing you to roll an additional attack die when attacking from outside a defender's firing arc. Very thematic! Nice art as always, and a great additional miniature for your TIE swarm.

Howlrunner: A must-have
TIE swarms and mini-swarms are still a time honored tactic in the X-Wing Miniatures Game. However, TIE fighters have one action missing on their action bar: the target lock. But there's a pilot in this pack who aids that.

Enter Howlrunner, the most expensive regular TIE in X-Wing. Her ability allows for each friendly ship at range 1 to reroll one attack die when using their primary weapon. Now the swarm has the ability to make the most of it's two dice per attack roll. Paired with Swarm Tactics, an upgrade card that allows for another ship to have the same pilot skill as the equipped pilot at the start of combat, and Howlrunner is a fantastic pilot.

The other two pilots are not bad, but Howlrunner is the queen of this set. If you run basic TIEs, at least one of these expansions is a must-have.

Swarm!!
I grabbed a couple of these with the core set because I like the idea of running many TIE's. Howlrunner was a nice surprise to say the least, and now I may need to get a couple of more...

As always the models are beautiful to display even when not playing...

Howlrunner.....'nuff said
.....wait, you want more?

Ok, let's face it, since 1977 these things have been a part of the sci-fi landscape, and any Star Wars dogfight game will include them. When it comes to X-wing miniatures, these guys are the point fillers in an Empire force. With swarms, the more the merrier. And the manueverability of the TIE is excellent for swarm attacks.

And yes, Howlrunner is one nasty lady.

Need!
If you fly Imps you must have this. Tie swarms are a great strategy and getting an amazing card like Howlrunner is one of the main reasons. Buy this right after you get your starter kit.

Strength in numbers!
This is the quintessential Imperial ship for anyone looking to play as the Empire. With great pilots like HowlRunner and Dark Curse leading your swarm, you can really strike fear into the hearts of Rebel scum players. The maneuvers are very flexible and the actions provide great options to any situations that could arise. Get one. Get two! Get eight!!!!!

Stronger as a swarm or good to fill in gaps in your squad
The TIE fighter is a great miniature and there's nothing quite like throwing eight TIEs at your enemy and overwhelming them with precision team tactics! You get a little more bang for your buck with the starter set but you gotta get some of the individual ones for the pilots and upgrade cards specific to this expansion. Great deal on a classic cornerstone to the imperials!

Necessary Expansion
This is one of the most important expansions for any Imperial player to own. TIE swarms are the most iconic tactic the Empire used in the classic films, and this ship perfectly represents it. With a starting cost of a mere 12 points, the TIE Fighter definitely makes its presence known when in groups of 3-4. When you add in pilots such as Howlrunner or Mauler Mithel (Core Set Pilot), they become absolutely terrifying. To any Imperial player or even a casual collector, I recommend this expansion.

Weak as One, Strong as Many
The classic TIE Fighter is an interesting ship. On its own, it is weak and not likely to do much for your squad list (especially if it is a low-point game). When part of a swarm, this ship becomes deadly, fast.

Included with this expansion are two quality pilots - Howlrunner and Backstabber. Howlrunner, in particular, caters to swarm lists as her ability plays off of keeping a tight formation. As with other FFG expansions to X-wing, the miniature is of a high quality and the pilots add great options for list building. My only gripe is the lack of different upgrades for the TIEs - apart from "Swarm," it is the same 'Determination" that's in the core.

Really turned me on my head
The reliability of the Rebels' craft is well-known, and me, being sympathetic to their cause, always made me feel like I needed to choose them. However, the small stint that I have had with the TIEs, it really turned me on my head, causing me to do a complete 180.

The TIEs, while weaker in hull, are far, far, far more maneuverable which, in my opinion, gives them the edge in combat. Besides that, there's also the swarm technique: if you have double the ships that your opponent has, you can definitely outmaneuver him/her with the first half while she/he tries to shoot your second half down. Definitely a must-have - especially in bulk.

Still a strong option
The Imperial Tie fighter is one of the first two ships released for X-Wing, having 2 models available in the core set. The Tie Fighter Expansion gives you another Tie with some new pilots and upgrade options. The game is currently in its 8th wave of expansions, and the tie fighter is still a very capable ship. As Darth Vader would say, "Most impressive".

Tie fighters are amongst the cheapest ships in the game, meaning you will typically fly them in a swarm formation. How big of a swarm you want to fly is up to you. Some players chose to use up to 7 ties in their swarm. Some chose to use less as support for other more expensive ships. Regardless of how you want to play your ties, if you plan on fielding them in any sort of formation (recommended) you'll want to get this expansion. It contains a few really great highlights:

Howlrunner: This expansion contains a named pilot, "Howlrunner". Howlrunner is the equivalent to a tie commander, and allows all ships in close range to reroll some of their attack dice. This works in perfect synergy with running a tie swarm, which typically stays in a tight formation, allowing all ties to benefit from Howlrunner's ability.

Swarm Tactics upgrade: In X-wing, ships take turns shooting each other in order of highest pilot skill to lowest pilot skills. This upgrade allows a ship with a higher pilot skill grant a ally in close range their pilot skill for the purpose of an attack. In simpler terms, it allows a ship that usually shoots last to shoot sooner. Again, this ties in with the Tie Fighter swarm synergy, allowing you to get the most out of your cheap ties.

The model looks great, and that's good, because after trying out the tie swarm, you'll probably decide you want to own a handful of these little guys.

great imperial workhorse
A tie fighter swarm is a lot of fun to play. Even though you get two of these ships in the original core set, the unique pilot Howlrunner is in this box, and you really want access to that as it has a great ability, letting every friendly ship at range 1 reroll one attack die. Definitely recommend getting this pack for that alone.

Must Have For Imperial Players
The TIE fighter is the iconic fighter for Imperials, so this expansion is a must have. Besides the additional TIE mini, you get some great pilot and upgrade cards. In the end, though, it is just a TIE, and you'll need numbers to overcome the Rebel's quality.

Howlrunner, enough said.
One of the most iconic ships of the Galactic Civil War and Star Wars we have the individual expansion ship that we first saw in the core set. This item is a must purchase item, be it to get one of the few synergistic Imperial Pilots, Howlrunner, or to simply build your Tie Swarm I cannot recommend buying this ship enough.

Must have for tie swarm
Great purchase after buying the core set especially if you're a imperial player. It contains Howl Runner who is a must have if you're planning to run tie swarms. Her ability allows friendly ships nearby to re-roll one attack die! Using her ability with a swarm of ties, allows for some massive damage.

TIE Swarm
TIE Swarm...say no more...

TIE Swarm was viable when the game came out, and is still just as devastating. Howlrunner is the classic "teacher" of the "TIE Academy", but there are also some other great choices for the "teacher". Or, use a handful of TIEs as a diversion and add in a TIE phantom

You will need half a dozen of these.

"Quantity has a quality all it's own"
TIE swarm FTW! The TIE fighter is a cheap, disposable ship with a good maneuver dial that can just overwhelm an opponent because you've got 7 or 8 ships to their 2. Plus, its fun to learn to fly them in formation. Great ship for what it does, and the usual best price from Miniature Market.

Still a staple
With the release of TFA core set and the Tie Fighter F/O, Howlrunner will still be a staple in tie swarms and a must have for a effective tie swarm. Howlrunner is the favorite in this expansion pack but all the named pilots are very effective. If you are just starting out you need this expansion if you want to fly swarms.

Must Have!!
You are nothing without a swarm. One of the best pilots that come with this expansion is Dark Curse. Almost impossible to take him down. Can't re-roll dice, can't use focus, its all luck when it comes to attacking Dark Curse.

Howl Runner is also a must have to make your swarm complete. Giving everyone you fly with an advantage.

I do wish this expansion was a little cheaper since you need to fly at least 4 of them to take advantage of their elusiveness

Imperial Mainstay
If you're flying a lot of Empire, you should probably pick one of these up for the pilots, upgrades and extra cannon fodder.

If you're just looking for extra TIE models, and haven't gotten an extra core set yet, you might want to do that instead. Or you can pick up the TIEs in the new Gozanti set coming out soon.

Swarming with Ties
The tie swarm is one of the favorites in the tournaments. It takes discipline and strategic planning to dominate with a swarm. If you are a fan its definitely worth buying this ship and a second core set. This will give you 5 ties to dominate the space.

Each pilot is cheap and has an advantage of being in a swarm.

Cannon Fodder
These ships are like mosquitoes. They have very little hull but can be very annoying in battle. The model is nice. Named pilots make them dangerous. Since they're low cost ships that are meant to be flown in swarms I feel like the $ price should be lower than other ships. Would make buying 6 more of these guys a little easier.

Great set to buy
After you start off with the Core Set, this is a good buy, especially if you want to start building the classic TIE Swarm squad. The upgrade card Swarm Tactics allows for a larger number of low skilled pilots to shoot sooner than later.
