No set is complete without o e of these.
Nice quick ship to get around the board fast. If you like aces I suggest also getting the rebel aces set. It has some good upgrade cards and having two aces with those cards are nice.

Nimble little fighter
The A-wing is one of my favorite Rebel ships and Fantasy Flight did a great job recreating the spirit of this fighter. Very quick and nimble, the A-wing is excellent at dodging arcs and unleashing rockets on enemy ships. Its weak hull will not hold up to concentrated fire so use their movement dial and stay unpredictable.

Rebel Answer To The TIE Interceptor
Fast and nimble, and includes some good pilots (Tycho Celchu) and upgrade cards (cluster missiles, deadeye, homing missiles, etc.). A little expensive point wise, and not with the firepower of some other Rebel ships, but properly played are very hard to kill. A good addition to any Rebel player's arsenal.

Good ship, better with Rebel Aces Expansion added
When I bought my A-wings when they first came out, they were really cool and added a ton of play style change to my Rebels. Nowadays there have been some newer ships to come out and make the A-wings seem a little underpowered/overpriced. Not by much but it can make a difference. As others have said, if you get the Rebel Aces expansion it comes with some cards to help bring the traditional A-wing back up to speed with current costs and values.

So I'd suggest getting one A-wing and the Rebel Aces expansion to get the most out of your A-wings.

Fast little ship
The A-Wing adds a wickedly fast and maneuverable fighter to the game, giving the Rebels a fighter that can out maneuver and out run most of the other Rebel ships. While it is fast and agile, it is only marginally tougher than the TIE fighters, and lacks the Barrel Roll action. The pilots and upgrades included are amazing as well.

Fantastic ship
The A-Wing offers a lot of versatility to your fleet in X-Wing. It is among the best maneuver blocking ships in the game and it comes with some of the most useful Upgrade cards available, such as Push the Limit. Definitely a must have.

The Rebel's Interceptor
Arc dodging ships can always be fun, giving the satisfying feeling of outplaying your opponent and making full use of your ship's maneuverability. Naturally the A-wing rewards this style of play, though it lacks the offensive ability to really punish your opponent for this. As such the ship is somewhat overcosted, though this is later addressed with the Rebel Aces expansion, which can be bought on this website.

This ship despite is's few flaws is recommended, especially as it is one of the expansions which provides Push The Limit one of the most useful upgrades in the game.

Very quick ship.
This is a supper maneuverable ship. It does not have a ton of fire power, but if you can spend your movement and actions getting out of peoples firing arcs you don’t need to have overpowering guns.

very manuveralbe
Probably one of the most manuverable rebel ships in the game. Though you can't equip it with an R2 unit, the ship does come with a good variety of pilots and options to equip it with. My model arrived with one of the engine exausts unpainted so I gave it one less star on quaility but other than that. it's a great looking ship and a fun addition to the game.

2-3 Points Too Much
First and foremost, this ship looks great. FFG does a great job with their miniatures and how they look. However, the statistics of this ship aren't fantastic. Many have already noted that the A-Wing costs 2-3 points too much: I concur. 2 attack, 3 defense, 2 hull, and 2 shield are costly at 17 points. If we compare it with the Z-95 Headhunter, the A-wing is 5 more points for an evade action, a boost action, a 5 straight maneuver, and one more evade dice. FFG does remedy this with two cards in the Rebel Aces expansion: the Chardaan refit (-2 squad points), and the A-Wing Test Pilot title card, but those two upgrade cards are not included in this set. The only upgrade card worth mentioning is Push the Limit, which is a fantastic Elite Pilot Talent upgrade. The elite pilots are not awful; Tycho Celchu is a beast with PTL. All in all, the A-Wing is a decent expansion that really needs Rebel Aces to go with it to make A-Wings a cost-effective ship to fly.

Cool little fighter
The miniature itself is really awesome, so much detail in such a small package. In game the A-Wing really can't stand on its own but when paired up with other ships, it really shines. My favorite come with B-Wings

One of the most agile ships
These ships are fun to fly and a horrible thing to try to kill. I have seen a few of these ships take down any and every Imperial ship they go against. An experienced player can use these very well and take down ships you never think they would. That being said they still don't pack the power in a one-on-one slugfest...but they are quick enough to almost never be caught in one. As soon as you think one is trapped.. it gets away.

If you're getting this, go get Rebel Aces
A-Wings aren't bad ships by any means, but for a while they were overcosted by about 2 points. Agile, fast, capable, but generally offensively weak, A-Wings rely on 2 things; having the Chaardan Refit upgrade from Rebel Aces to discount their cost by 2 points at the expense of their missile slot, or by using Proton Rockets from the same expansion for a relatively cheap, hard-hitting ordinance in a cheap, mobile platform. Additionally, all A-Wing pilots above Pilot Skill 1 can take an upgrade(also from Rebel Aces) that grants an additional Elite Pilot Talent slot, allowing A-Wings that already have an EPT slot to take 2 different EPTs, drastically boosting their effectiveness.

The model itself is one of my favorites. The A-Wing is modeled and painted beautifully. No worries there.

Excellent Ship for More Depth!
X-Wing is one of the most accessible miniatures games out there. The amount of depth that Fantasy Flight has added without creating something ultra-complex is truly amazing! The A-Wing is no exception, as this will add a fast and fierce ship to your Rebel arsenal. I've seen some pretty lethal squadrons put together that contain A-Wings, and have even used them to my own great benefit with the pilot abilities offered in this expansion.

Bad alone...
Like the Tie Fighters the A-Wing is only good in a group of two or more, plus you'll probably need Chardaan Refit cards from the Rebel Aces expansion to use this ship much. Tycho Celchu is a beast though.

You're Gonna want "Rebel Aces"
The A-Wing is known for it's speed and agility. It's a very fast and maneuverable ship, giving the rebels access to a light fighter that can rival the tie fighter for speed. What the A-Wing lacks in firepower, it makes up for in it's ability to move long distances and evade enemy fire. It's very lightly armored and shielded, so it cannot take many hits before being destroyed.

All in all, I think the A-Wing is a great expansion. I own a handful of this expansion myself. The A-Wing cost less in-game points to field, so you can fit quite a few of them into a standard squad. However, I've docked a star from the "Value" rating from this review due to the A-Wing Expansion requiring a bit of a "fix" from Fantasy Flight Games to balance it with the other ships. These "fixes" were released in the Rebel Aces expansion. The Rebel Aces Expansion gives you the ability to arm your A-Wings with the devastating Proton Rocket, or the ability to trade in your missile upgrade slot to further lower the cost of the already cheap A-Wing. Without access to those 2 upgrades, the A-Wing is a little underwhelming for competitive play. Casual gamers will likely think the A-Wing Expansion is perfectly acceptable as is.

In conclusion, the A-Wing is a great ship, and I recommend owning a few of them. The sculpt and paint job are great, as is to be expected with Fantasy Flight Game products. The A-Wing has some of the best named pilots in the game, and they are both fun to play and capable. Their generic pilots are cheap to field and can do quite a bit. If you really want to get the most bang for your buck, also pick up the Rebel Aces expansion for additional pilots and upgrades.

Expand Your Rebel Squad - But Beware of Cost (in-game)
The A-Wing is the light-weight speed demon for the rebellion - boasting agility but lacking firepower and flexible load-out. Cost is a bit of an issue (gameplay, not price) compared to other fighters - especially given other options available. The Rebel Aces resolves this issue with a refit that drops cost - but at the reduction of one of the A-Wing's better assets (missiles!).

The model is small compared to some of the other minis, but that is also because FFG has maintained a pretty strict scale on the ships. Detail is excellent and the variety in missile load-outs and pilots make this a great expansion for your X-Wing game.

The Rebel version of the Tie Fighter
This ship is a must have for the Rebel faction, but you should also buy the Rebel Aces box as well. This is because of the refit cards which reduce the cost of any A-wing by 2 points. The trade off is you lose a spot to place a missile. It is totally worth it to throw a 15 point A-wing in the mix. The maneuver dial is also fantastic, a green 5 straight comes in handy when you are stressed and want to get out of the line of fire.

Fast and maneuverable!
Great ship, beautiful design. I find it's a good support fighter able to clean up on ties and interceptors - one of the better Alliance ships I have to flank targets. But has a hard time against anything with a shield (like the Advanced), especially one on one unless you can time cluster missiles with it. Bought separately with a B-wing and Tycho Celchu is fun to have, but in retrospect, getting the Aces pack would have worked out better due to the available crew cards.

A nimble flanking ship that can cause a lot of damage if maneuvered right.
The A Wing is a fast and agile ship that can get to the flanks of your opponent before they realize they overextended themselves. With the right maneuvers you can be within range 1 to hammer your opponent with 3 attack dice. A great addition to a Rebel fleet.

My favorite Rebel Ship
A-Wings are what got me involved in this game to being with. Their high speed allows them to close the gap on enemy ships or break away fast to get out of danger. Their high agility makes them hard to hit, and while their primary weapons aren't the best they can take missiles for a crippling or finishing blow. I bought 4 of these along with 2 Rebel Aces Expansions, and I love my A-Wing squads!

The anti-TIE
The A-wing is a good ship for any one to have on their Rebellion team for X-Wing miniatures game. It's not a spectacular fighter in it's own right but, for the points, it is very maneuverable and contains a missile upgrade which is a killer against TIE swarms. I strongly recommend having 2 for game play

Good Agile Ship
Good ship to add. I like to create squadrons kind of like Armada and I always play with 3 A-wings in my battles. Not as strong as the X-wings but typically worth less points so you can have more of them in your battle. The ship looks great just like all other X-wing Miniatures.

Long story short, A-Wings can be great for a lot of the Mission scenarios, but in tournaments they typically don't pay off. :\ Unfortunately.
I'm still a pretty new player, and I only play casually.
I see a lot of criticism of the A-wing, how it's too easy to kill.
A lot of people don't even list them as purchase options.
But it is so fun to fly, probably my favorite ship. I think if you fly them well, they could be a great asset to your team. Long story short, A-Wings can be great for a lot of the Mission scenarios, but in tournaments they typically don't pay off. :\ Unfortunately.
My only gripe is that there are only a few pilots...wouldn't mind seeing a couple more options if i wanted to run more in a set.

Great Penetration Fighter
This beautifully designed fighter is an important addition to your order of battle. It's diminutive size makes it incredibly maneuverable at low speeds, making it great to penetrate the center of a large enemy force. Add to that it's longer range missile options and the A-wing becomes a highly versatile ship for all tactical situations. Definitely a "must-have."
