Great Standalone Game with Many Awesome Expansions
The new core set is a needed pickup for anyone getting into the game. This core set includes everything that is needed to play the game. The ships included in the core set allow for a balanced game to be played between 2 players. Once you get this set, you can get many more expansions to expand the game for you.

Best Expansion the game has to offer, regardless of how long you've been playing.
The Force Awakens Core Set is a phenomenal, almost mandatory set to pick up. The ships included are, gameplay wise, the most viable ships the game has seen in a long time, and the pilots flying them have fantastic abilities. New, exceedingly usable upgrade cards, an amazing rulebook containing the specific rules for nearly every situation that could occur in-game along with the summary of 3 years of FAQ and Errata updates. Highly recommend picking this up whether youre a brand new player or a veteran.

Great core set. Buy two!
The core set is much like the original, but includes a better rules booklet, one of which is a nice alphabetized reference manual. The new T70 with Poe Dameron is seeing a lot of action in Tournaments from the looks of it, and the First Order Ties are fun. Epsilon Leader is Soontir Fel's new best friend relieving stress. If you're new to the game, but one of these, and buy one of the original core sets. You'll save money in the end - with 6 ships, and duplicate accessories, especially the extra dice which are a must.

Better than the original core set
Comparing this set to the original core set, you get all of the same components and number of ships but the newer Tie Fighters and X-wings are stronger and more maneuverable than their counterparts in the original set. For example the new Tie fighters cost 3 more squad points than their counterparts in the original core set but they come with a shield, an added maneuver, target lock, and an added upgrade type.

Thus, if you are new to the game and are trying to decide which core set to buy I recommend this one or buying them both as this will get you the variety and two sets of dice and maneuver measurement tools.

Great Game!
If you like star wars and you're into strategy games you will love X-Wing Miniatures. I have been into strategy board games for years but this is the first table-top game I've ever owned. The game is deep and can be as simple or complex as you and your friends make it. Well worth the investment for hours of thought and fun!

Great Great Game!
I consider myself a gamer, though my experience pales in comparison to most. This game though, is one of the best games I've come to play! The movement with the maneuver dials and not revealing them till its time for your figure to move is a great mechanic where you really have to be strategic about where you move or you could end up in some real danger!

I'd say the few downfalls of the game are that: you need more than a core set to really have a great game and it only plays 2 people (unless you house rules it and play from multiple sides of the play area with up to 4 people).

Overall this is an awesome game, but you're going to need to sink a lot of money into it if you want to have the best games you can have.

Amazing Game
I demoed this X-wing set with a friend that bought it and I bought it the next day. It includes everything you need to play X-Wing and comes with new ships, cards, and asteroids for any player that already owns the original starter set.

The inclusion of Poe Dameron is worth the price alone, especially the great deal on Miniature Market. His awesome ship and cards change the entire strategy of the game!

Nice improvement over original core
The T-70 X-wing is a solid ship, with a great ace in Poe, the BB-8 astromech is a lot of fun, and the F/O ties are very maneuverable and a lot of fun to fly. To friends who are getting into the game, I tend to recommend this core set over the red one, but getting both is really worth it too.

The next generation of X-Wing
First things first, the new X-Wing and TIE Fighters look fantastic. They are easily the best looking miniatures in their size and really show off the new design of the Resistance's X-Wing. They are also mechanically superior to their original counterparts. The T70 X-Wing is much more maneuverable with a new upgrade slot while the TIE/FO has a shield and target lock capability. All the pilots are entirely new with some really cool abilities, particularly Poe Dameron. There is even a bit of benefit for the old X-Wings with a new modification and the great BB-8 astromech giving them some survivability and maneuverability they've never really had before.

The other components are excellent. There's an updated rulebook as well as a reference book for all of the maneuvers and extra rules for things like cloaking and bombs that are not otherwise relevant to this core set. Unfortunately, the nature of an ongoing game has made a bit of the information out of date with the current FAQ. There are new asteroids and new missions so existing players definitely have reason to buy beyond the ships but perhaps the most interesting new component is the new damage deck. While a lot of the deck is the same, builds running elite pilots and/or secondary weapons will definitely find this deck less frustrating.

Overall, the Force Awakens core set is a fantastic starting place for new players and also a welcome addition for long-term players.

The Star Wars X-Wing Core Set: The Force Awakens is quite simply a must-have for any and all X-Wing players. Nothing new here: beautifully detailed and painted ships, flawless game play, and an infinite amount of replay-ability make X-Wing my all time favorite. However, if you're going to do any tournament play you need this set. The new X-Wing's boost and do a Talon Roll, the new Tie's target lock and do S-turns. 'Nough said.

Wow!! The new x-wing looks great, and the new Ties too. The Ties are not repaints, you can see the different molds. This set is once again a value and great way to get new players into the game. What makes it great? Overall value. You get everything you need to play a small game with a friend. Ships, cards, upgrades, rule book, measurement devices. Coming from other table top mini games, this is the best for me. Pre-painted, cheap, and everything you need.

NiceNew Box Set To Take Into TFA
This box set is similar to the original in contents. The miniatures have different paint schemes, and of course the ship cards and tokens are different. The damage cards are a little different as well, with a few from the original box set being replaced by different cards in this one. The upgrade cards have been updated for TFA as well. I believe that Fantasy Flight Games is going to start requiring the new damage card deck in 2016 for tournament play.

X-Wing 2.0... I like it!
A few weeks ago at the Salt Lake Comic Con I picked up my copy of this core set, and having already been playing for a year I kind of knew what to expect. I was wrong. First of all, the new T-70 is a breath of fresh air for the Rebels. Although a bit expensive points wise, it makes up for it with its abilities. The new upgrade cards are amazing, too. I recently ran Poe Dameron with BB-8, Weapons Guidance, and Marksmanship. I was impressed. I have yet to test out the TIE/fo, but from what I have heard it is a decent upgrade to the classic TIE/ln. All in all, this an excellent addition to the X-Wing game and finally brings some of the fixes that have been wanted for a long time. (P.S. I had my set was signed by Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole, so extra value there)

THE FORCE HAS AWAKENED!
This can be played as a stand-alone or in addition to the Star Wars X-Wing series, only with the updated blue X-Wings (for Force Awakens) and slightly different style TIE Fighters. Fantasy Flight continues the same high quality miniatures in the games as the previous version and in Armada. For those already familiar with the other core set of X-Wing, the damage cards are different and the ships play a little differently. Interestingly, the TIE Fighters seem slightly overpowered compared to the single X-Wing (as compared to the red version, where the X-Wing commonly wins), even though this adds in a cool new type of roll and sharp turn for the X-Wing. It still lacks one attack die and one defense die to be able to play the game with no other additions (can either purchase an additional dice pack or use an app on your smartphone to roll the extra). There are 3 missions included (different from the previous set) and different asteroids, so this can easily stack with the other version for expanded playability. Rules and the rule book are also improved, especially for novices trying to pick up the gameplay. They include a summary, which comes in very handy.
So, it plays fine by itself - it is compatible with the other expansion ships and red core set - and is definitely worth the pick up.

love this game and this set takes it to the next level. this can be either a first or second set, depending on if you've played before. the orignial set has ships from the original trilogy and this one has ships from the Force Awakens. For less than the price of 3 additonal ships, you get the ships, extra dice, pilots, damage deck and a lot more. This set is fantastic for either an introduction to the game or as a great way to expand your fleet of miniatures.

X-Wing Core Sets are great values for the money, and this one comes with an improved damage deck and templates with some useful new markings for those who have already invested in the system. The models use new, highly-detailed molds and have outstanding paint jobs. FFG's manufacturers have really refined their mass-produced painting techniques over the years and the results are in this box.

Everything is New and Shiny.
This is the second core set for X-Wing Miniatures Game.

It adds new ships like the T-70 X-Wing and the Tie F/O. It also adds a brand new Damage Deck, that come Jan 1, 2016 will be required for competitive play. It is far better damage deck. No long will some critical hits be brutal against certain builds and utterly pointless against others. They are far more balanced across all builds.

It also adds a new set of 6 asteroids. These will go into the pool of asteroids and debris fields that you can choose from when you build a squadron.

The starter is a great value, because for less than the price of three individual ships, you get three ships, a damage deck, 6 dice, maneuver templates, and more. It is a very good deal.

Must Have Addition to the Game
Very good product. Very happy with the contents. Only complaint that I have is the TIE/FO seem to be lacking in the paint job. Makes them look very Toy-like compared to all of the other X-Wing ships. This is the only reason I marked it as 4 stars for Quality.

The new updated rulebook is great to have and the inclusion of updated X-Wing and TIE's is awesome in my opinion. The new maneuvers will add great variety to the game.

I titled this summary a "Must Have" because of the new damage deck. Some of the cards have been changed out to make them more effective and damaging for every ship. if you plan on playing competitively, then you are required to have the new deck so you might as well but this set.

Great value with beautiful miniatures.
This is a must have for both new and veteran players of x-wing.

New players will get everything they need to start playing the game with the latest rules and components.

Veteran players will get the new streamlined damage deck that replaces some of the cards that were found to be a little too crippling to some ships while having little to no effect on others. As well as the new ships, pilots, and upgrade cards.

The miniatures included with this set are some of most beautiful and finely detailed to be released so far, and x-wing is just an all around amazing game.

Great for new and veteran players
This is a great addition for new and veteran players. There is a lot of great stuff in this box. The models look fantastic, they are crisp and clean and look great on the table. Besides the models I believe the damage deck is the best upgraded item in this box. The old damage deck had critical damage cards that may or may not have effected ships or pilots but this decks crit cards effects every type of build. I would recommend buying two so you have two each of "wired" and "weapons guidance". You'll get extra dice and templates, so you will have spares incase they are misplaced or give them to a friend.

If you're new to the game, absolutely buy this starter
If you're choosing between the original starter and this one, definitely choose this one as you will need the new damage deck for upcoming tournament play. The three models included in this ship look fantastic, far more crisp and clean than the original ships. The pilots included for both factions are great, although it would have been nicer to have more options with the upgrades. BB-8 is almost an auto-include for anyone flying rebels, and the new Tie FO pilots make some cheap, interesting additions to any imperial lists looking to fill those last 16-25 points.

This one is better
Seriously - while this may not constitute a "new edition" exactly, the rules were tightened up here and there and the maneuver dials on the new ships definitely improved game play for me - and I love the idea that performance has improved because these ships are from "The FUUUUTUUURE!!!" Point costs have gone up, too, so it's compatible with the old set without "power creep."

This iteration of X-wing lacks some of the "character" of the initial box - named TIE pilots no longer have cool names like "Mauler" and "Night Beast." They have decided instead to simply follow the formula "(Squadron Name) Ace" for Ties and X-wings alike. The sole exception is "Poe Dammeron" in the top X-wing slot (Pilot Skill 8). This is, of course, because nobody knows much about the new film yet...

That said, the pilot abilities and upgrades in this box are all pretty good, even if it feels like FF was a little stingy with the latter. (You don't even get enough to fill all the available slots on all your ships...) The new BB-8 Astromech is fantastic, and Wired needs to show up in an expansion ship ASAP because folks will want more than one.

Love this game
I held off buying the original core set when it first came out. With the release of this new core set, and the new movie coming out I could no longer hold back and gave into buying this game. So glad that I did. Not only is it fun to play, but the quality of the parts are very top notch. Not just the miniatures, but the cardboard tokens as well. I have been dealing with quite a few different games in the last few years that use cardboard bits and these are by far the highest quality I have seen so far.

You cannot go wrong with this game even if you only buy the core and nothing else.

Great addition
If you play X-Wing, you'll love this new set! A brand new damage deck, and upgrades on the ships make for interesting game play. This new set does feature the ships from the upcoming "Force Awakens" movie coming out this winter.

And to make someone who is interested in this game aware, this is NOT a complete game. You get 3 ships, one for the Resistance (Rebels) faction, and two for the First Order (Empire) faction. You will have to buy other expansions to field different ships and pilots, but you get enough in this box to learn how to play.

Great new ships!
This new core set presents some great new options. The new TIE/FO have better durability and the T-70 is more maneuverable. The Ties are the same ship design with a new paint scheme, but the T-70 is an entirely new model. As others mentioned, many organized events will be requiring the new damage deck from this set soon. If you are just starting out, I recommend picking up one of these as well as the original core set - you'll want the extra dice anyway, and an extra set of templates is good to have also.

A Winter Movie is Coming...
In anticipation of the new Star Wars film, FFG has released the T-70 and Tie/FO fighters in a new core set. This product is both a recommended and yet somewhat awkwardly required purchase for the game, as the new damage deck in the game will be required by the end of this year if not the beginning of next year.

Still despite this issue the this is a great way to build you anticipation up for the film, as well as get three new exciting ships with new options. Including a new Tech upgrade, and powered up maneuver dials allowing these ships more options than their original core set predecessors.

Improvement over the original release...mostly
X-Wing is a great game overall, though the power creep is a bit disheartening for us casual players.

This "2nd Edition" of the core game does have several improvements over the original. First, the components (particularly the ships) are a notch up in terms of quality (the painting is crisper and the pieces go together more easily). Secondly, they took a page out of their Armada game and included a useful reference booklet to help keep all the rules straight. Finally, the core set of pilots (and ship stats) are upped a bit, and give a little more survivability (for the Imperials) and maneuverability (for the rebels)--both welcome additions.

The $40 price tag is not terrible, though for only getting 3 ships for a 2-1 game is a bit disappointing. Miniature Market's price seems more on the nose, and is appreciated!

Great expansion/update/starter set
What's not to love about this new take on the original core set? Better looking models, updated T-70 and TIE/fo fighters, fully compatible with the original core set, updated maneuver dials, and the T-70 has the boost action now! I like the new turn that they came up with too. FFG is doing a remarkable job of updating and balancing game elements as the game continues to expand. I'm hooked, and I really don't even get to play with friends nearly as often as I'd like.

What else is new? An updated damage deck, updated booklets, and while the upgrades that come with this set aren't as plentiful as in the original, they offer some cool new upgrade cards and pilot cards. Definitely worth it, especially at the very low price that MM is offering it for.

You know those tiny spoons at ice creams shops, where you want to know if you should order this or that particular flavor? That's this box. It's a complete taste, but not a complete game. It's important to know that.

This box gives new players enough stuff to know if they're going to actually have fun playing the game. That's its primary function, and I think it succeeds at that function. It has enough stuff for a potentially fun- small- 2 player game. The ships themselves are well painted and well detailed. They simply look _pretty_. I do sometimes take out my collection to show people who appreciate good models.

The secondary function of this box is to bring 2 new ships and the concept of "subfactions" to current players of X-Wing. Those ships (the T-70 X-Wing and the TIE f/o Fighter) bring some new and interesting options to the X-Wing miniatures game, including a new slot type. I'm still a bit wary of the T-70's place on the playing field (I think it should have a slightly lower squad point cost), but it looks to be a very slippery bugger. Time will tell. The TIE f/o Fighter is not a replacement for the TIE Fighter, and that's actually good news. It seems to have a slightly different role in a fleet, and to be well squad-point-costed to fill that role.

Plus the new damage deck. Plus new copies of the standard movement templates (mine were starting to show their age...). And more dice.

So: if you're a current player? Pick up at least one of these. If you're a curious potential new player? Pick up one of these, grab a friend and roll some dice. Say "pew pew pew" as you roll the dice. If you have fun with the game... welcome to the club. There's a whole lot more awesome stuff.

T70 good, FO/TIE Meh, New Crit deck Awesome
This is just a well done update to the core set that was needed. The biggest changes is the T70 X-Wing (Poe is epic) and the crit deck is a lot more balanced.

Great Deal
The ships in this set are better painted than the original core set. If you are just starting out, the set lacks the diversity of upgrade cards that the core set has to offer. The production and quality are A+. Invest and have fun, you can't go wrong.

Great even if you own the original core set
This new core set was a wonderful surprise. Brand new ships with new stats and maneuvers (NOT the same as the Tie Fighters and X-Wing in the original Core Set).

I was honestly expecting this to be the same old Core Set with a new paint job, but FFG really delivered.

Omega Ace paired with Push the Limit is absolutely insane. I may never fly a regular old Tie Fighter ever again.

ten thumbs up lol
since i run xwing organized play i have a heads up on this core.the t-70 xwing? beast!! the tie/fo fighter ok but higher point cost for a cool sculpt and a shield and targeting cpu lowers the new ties value on the battlefield in my opinion.the new damage deck is better than the original and miniature markets price on this is crazy low!! as always the ffg quality is awesome and you get what you need to start blasting away with a friend or solitaire style.this is the new core and they did a great job in my opinion!!

With the addition of the T-70 and TIE/fo this is a awesome core set. Worth the buy for the new damage deck and asteroids as well.

Good upgrade to original core set
Not only are you getting the new ships from the Force Awakens but you are getting updated rules and components. There is now a separate rules index provided that makes it easier to look up oft forgotten rules. My only complaint is the lack of upgrade cards compared to the original core set with only a few upgrades (less than ten).

Interesting New Ships, and a droid that can make Y-wings Barrel Roll - WOOT!
New Damage Deck (Tournament legal - so a must buy!), New bigger rocks (more asteroid choices), initiative token, New Rule Book, and BB-8 - can Make Y-wings (X-wings, E-wing, and T-70 x-wings) Barrel Roll!!

For new players - Buy 2, or Buy This and the Old Starter - to get enough dice, BB-8 and R2-D2.

Good value but if you are new to a game you will need a few other expansions for max value.
For a new player without any other ships/expansions (and as a result, additional upgrade cards etc) this set is a little lacking. However, since it is only 26 dollars if you could splurge and pick up a few other ship expansions in addition to this set then it is still well worth it. Even without doing so you could still play a decent amount but as with any miniatures game you will need other ships.

If you are already a current player though you cant beat the price. 3 ships, some upgrades and extra dice and templates is a steal.

Another fantastic set
Great new ships that come beautifully painted. Not merely a new coat of paint though, as each ship is brand new to the game. Good job FFG for another stellar release. Only downside is same as the original core set, you really want two of them.

Fun game! Quality purchase, good value on a starter set.
Very fun game that can be enjoyed casually and competitively. This starter is great because it adds worthwhile ships, has the base rules and all the items are useful. You could purchase 2-3 of these for a bigger game or just enjoy these ships. FFG has done a great job making things balanced and useful, so you really can fly every ship. AND you save money by purchasing the starter vs. purchasing each ship individually. WARNING you will want to purchase more, as the game is very addictive.
