Star Realms Deckbuilding Game

Star Realms Deckbuilding Game

Product Review (submitted on October 26, 2015):
You don't even really need a reason to get this. If you're even considering adding another two player game, this one is a shoe in.

I play this game exclusively with my wife, so that we can grow in our understanding of the strategy together. I think I should play a few on my own though, because she has been kicking my butt lately. Its got a great spot in our collection for several reasons. 1) We don't often have time for a lengthy game. Even an hour can be too much when we are tired. This game can be played in 30 minutes or less, and often times under 20. 2) We can actually set this game up on a tv tray between us and play it on the couch. Its got a reasonably small footprint, so we don't have to sit in a dining room chair. 3) Its fun as heck. Im not even sure what exactly it is. Its just excellent, for unexpected reasons.

Its a pretty simple deck building game with 4 factions that all have a group of powers associated with them. Each person starts the game with 50 hit points, and you just have to get your opponent down to 0. Interestingly enough, we don't often do well with direct conflict in our games. For some reason though, this one is ok. Maybe its that its the core of the game. Ive got to attack, its not just one of several options.

It comes in a tuck box, which is kind of a bummer. I imagine it saves production cost though, so its still a win. I think I tear the box a bit more each time I open it, but its still fine. Eventually, I'll break down and buy an actual deck box, but if you don't care then the tuck box does just fine.

If you're making an order, just toss this one in with everything else. Its excellent, deep, and engaging. For under 10 bucks, its a great value.
