Gen Con Nightly Roundup

Under water, no one can hear you scream!

The year is 2048. You are part of a team of elite officers in command of a state-of-the-art submarine. The hunt has begun. Your mission is simple: seek and destroy the enemy submarine. To beat the enemy, you must cooperate with your teammates. Only the team who best communicates and works together will survive the encounter...

Your keys to success...

Synchronize: Alone, you will achieve nothing. Each officer on the team fills an essential role. Talking is important, but so is listening carefully and coordinating your actions.

Organize: If you do not plan your moves, you will not catch the enemy. Each decision must be deliberate.

Navigate: You must not only find the enemy's submarine; you must also not get caught yourself. Only precise navigation will put you in position to win this battle.

Attack: Take no man alive! Even though the mission requires stealth, do not hesitate to fire your weapons when the perfect opportunity presents itself!

Repair: Your sub will take fire and most likely sustain damage. You must try to remain calm and get your sub back up and running quickly!

Amazing game that is perfect for 6-8 players
Captain Sonar is a fantastic game to pull out whenever you have 6-8 people around. This game has been a hit at my FLGS where players of all backgrounds, not just board game players, are enjoying it. The game pits two teams against each other, where communication is key and tension runs high with each passing second of the game. The best part about this game is that, unlike many games with this high of a player count, there is no downtime. Players are constantly interacting with each other as well, even across teams. This game is not only a fun experience, it also builds comraderie with anyone you play it with. This is definitely a must have for anyone's board game collection.

Unexpected Surprise
I truly enjoyed this game. It is a pretty cool deduction and planning game. You plan your move thinking of the potential damage on your boat and how to mitigate it with your moves. Then you have to make sure you know what systems you want to have ready for when combat happens or if you're instead using system to find the other sub. Once the sub is found it becomes a scramble to either escape or finish the enemy off. I only played it in turn based but in real time this game sounds even better especially if you can fill all 8 spots! It was an impulse buy for my group and we enjoyed it a lot. Can't wait to bring in an epic group.
