The stars are right for Great Cthulhu’s return. It’s up to you to make them wrong again!

The Great Old Ones reach out from the future and into their past - our present - corrupting the timeline such that events and individuals turn towards the apocalyptic and lead to their inevitable rise. A small and battered resistance effort mounted by time-travelers and present-day heroes stands in their way.

You are those one-way travelers from a dark future and their crucial allies from the present day, working together to save the human race from looming apocalypse. Armed with foreknowledge of Judgment Day, you must succeed at a series of vital missions aimed at restoring hope to the future.

But the clock is ticking. The corrupting influence of the Great Old Ones is sure to affect you before the end, twisting you slowly and inexorably into something alien and unrecognizable.

Fate of Cthulhu is a stand-alone game powered by the Fate Core System. No other books are needed to play. In this game, you’ll find:

• The full Fate Core system condensed to about 50 pages but still supporting the standard Core skill list, stunt building, and more.

• Rules for corruption, where character sacrifice more of their humanity to take on monstrous abilities to fight the apocalypse.

• A timeline alteration system for tracking key events leading up to the apocalypse that the player change through their actions and choices during play, including support for ripple effects and time paradoxes.

• Support for heroic last stands that sacrifice a character but help turn the timeline towards a better outcome.

• Rituals and spells that offer great power at a cost, treating spells as secrets of arcane Elder technology that must be sought out in play.

• Five detailed apocalyptic timelines plus rules for running them and making your own.

Innovative, fresh, and full of quality
FoC is up to Evil Hat's usual standards. Innovative, high quality production, and a fresh take on the material, rather than the same old same old. I for one am excited for a narrative take on the genre(s).

Sad attempt to copy Call of Cthulhu
I've played ton ton of Lovecraftian games over the years from giant RPGs to micro re-skins. Cthulhu is ubiquitous because it's in the public domain which is a double edged sword, because while it means anyone with an idea can use the world and some amazing stuff can come out of that freedom, there is also no low-end standards and zero quality control, and that is the case here. People that have obviously not read very much Lovecraft and probably just grabbed random "monsters" and settings off a wikipedia page, basically just have you go at them with a gun; coulda been werewolves or zombies or anything really. If you're looking for a good game set in this universe, stick with the timeless classic, the one that pretty much started it all, the one that this one tried to copy and failed, The Call of Cthulhu from Chaosium Games, if you're looking for something a little bit lighter, check out Eldritch Horror, if you want something that plays in about an hour Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu is surprisingly good at capturing the mythos.
