TRADE BUILD SETTLE

Your adventurous settlers seek to tame the remote but rich isle of Catan. Start by revealing Catan's many harbors and regions: pastures, fields, mountains, hills, forests, and desert. The random mix creates a different board game virtually every game. No two games are the same!

Embark on a quest to settle the isle of Catan! Guide your settlers to victory by clever trading and cunning development. Use resource combinations - grain, wool, ore, brick, and lumber - to buy handy development cards and build roads, settlements, and cities. Acquire your resources through trades, cards, or lucky dice (even outside your turn).

But beware! Someone might cut off your road or buy a monopoly. And you never know when the wily robber might steal some of your precious gems!

A Must Have For Your Collection
I have played 70+ games of Catan. I've introduced many new people to gaming by starting with this game. Catan is a great gateway game. Whether its people new to the hobby entirely or people wanting to get a small feel for strategy this is your game.

3-4 players will gather resources, build, and trade to get the most victory points. The best things about this game is the high replay-ability. Every game the location of resources and the scarcity of those resources will change. Robbing other players and trade negotiations add a good amount of player interaction. 2 things some people might not like about the game is the passive agressiveness (getting blocked and having no way to retaliate or attack) and if the dice don't go your way and no one trades with you, you can sit idly until your next turn.

This game will take about an hour to play. Its a medium weight game for new players and a lightweight game for experienced players. 50/50 luck/strategy. Rules are clearly written, simple, easy to teach and understand. Artwork is good. Components aren't amazing, but no complaints either. I highly recommend for everyone to play at least a couple games of this. (It only gets better with expansions). 8/10 easy.

A Fun Family Game
This was one of my first experiences with a "designer game" and it was an excellent introduction. The game is easy to learn and very easy for non-gamers to pick up and understand. There is certainly a level of strategy to the game, but the dice rolls allow for enough randomness that even those with little experience can do well. The only real downside may be that with the dice rolls and a lower number of players, the game can drag just a little, but this is only occasionally. Definitely recommend if your ready to move beyond mass market games like monopoly.

An absolute staple in every collection
I truly believe that everyone should own a copy of Catan in one fashion or another. This game has been around for 20+ years and is still relevant, this should tell you something about the game. You get to chuck dice, collect and trade resources, and dominate the realm. What more could you ask for?

Great gateway
Catan is a great gateway game.
Me and my wife love to invite a couple of friends to play Catan. Friends that are begginers in boardgames, and they always have a good time.
To win you have to trade resources with other players.

Game that got me into games
This was the first game I played with my family that got me into board gaming. It's a great family game that brings a group together and makes trading stuff a house hold daily activity. It is also a great learning game that teaches basic supply and demand. I recommend it to any family looking to upgrade from the weekly monopoly game night.

Good entry game!
Exchange , negotiation and trade , if you like these mechanics this is a game for you.

A family and fun game. A good entry game for people who are not used with different Monopoly board games. This i a 4-player game , but it is possible to reach up to 6 with the expansions .

I recomended!

First Frontier
Myself, like many others, played Catan in its early stages and fell in love with it from day 1. Catan is a game of expansion, planning, and resource management that is simple enough for just about anyone to learn. I would easily recommend anyone to play Catan, but just be careful with the tiles. While not the case of all copies, mine frayed at the edges early and had an issue with the paper peeling. Was still worth every penny regardless.

Fun game
This was a fun game that my brother in law introduced me to on vacation. The game play is good. Strategy is key. Lots of variability.

Most famous designer game
I can't believe that nobody gave a review for Catan!

Everybody probably knows this game, but it's always fun to play. You roll the dice, you gather resources, you trade, you build. 20 years have gone by and Catan is still fun. Every household should have a copy of this game.
