Amazing, Straightforward Card Game
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn is unique in the customizable card game category in that it is affordable, approachable, and addictive. It removes the price barrier encountered when playing Magic the Gathering, and contains none of the convoluted rules and endless number of expansions found in Fantasy Flight's LCG format. One core gives you enough copies of every card to make a complete deck. And with only a dozen or so expansions thus far, all between $12 and $20, you can easily collect all of them to keep the game varied. Ashes, in short, is a winner that will hopefully see more play at your FLGS in the future.

Ashes: Absolutely Amazing
Demoed at Origins last year, pre-ordered immediately after. Despite the lack of print run for the first expansion, this game is a CCG replacement for me. Just enough strategy and complexity in deckbuilding to keep me and my friends interested. Definitely recommend this (and I might buy a few more core sets ((one for my GF, and one to draft out of))), and hope the community grows farther :)

Surprising actually
I heard about this game thanks to an article about how all the art was done by the same artist and I thought, "a card game...where each card has the same art style? That sounds amazing!"

So I started looking into it and I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters all look the same on the cards which helps to add to the experience. The game is unique in that you potentially could not cast all of your spells based on how good/bad your die rolls are. That adds a level of randomness to the game that forces you think above and beyond what is normally called for in most games. Not only that but your dice themselves have innate powers that you can use which forces your opponent to play differently. I was so shocked at how deep this game was right out of the box. It is amazing.

Cool game that is screaming for expansioms.
The game itself is good, but with only the core set you cant really deck build at all... the dice mechanic is really well done and the artwork is pretty.
The only problem is that decks are way too small and sometimes games are decided if you get the combo if the early than your opponent.

Simply a no brainier...YES
Let me preface this by saying I am a 20 year MTG player and am over the CCG gaming aspect. For under $40 your getting 6 pre constructed decks, high quality dice and everything you need in one box. For the price of 7 MTG booster packs your getting a complete game with tons of replay value.

Ashes is GREAT!!
Plaid Hat does it again with Ashes Rise of the Phoenixborn!! Ashes is an awesome 2-player dueling card game that I have actually played with 3 and 4 and we seem to think it still plays well. There is enough in this box to put together 6 pre-constructed decks with a very different feel to each of them. You can also customize the decks similar to a MTG style deck construction.

The unique thing about Ashes is the dice rolling at the beginning of each round. Each person will roll 10 dice corresponding to the type of "mana" they need to play spells and units. This is essentially your "mana pool" for the round and you will take a main action followed by a minor action each turn then pass play to you opponent. Once you are either out of dice to use or wish to pass you can "pass" and once both you and your opponent "pass" in the round you refresh all your spells and units, roll your dice, and start a new round. I should say the object of the game is to deal damage to your opponent's Phoenixborn to kill it.

This is a wonderful game and I have had a blast playing it many many times!

A new twist on a classic idea
I demoed this game at my FLGS. No doubt all of us have played (or at least heard of) Magic the Gathering. This game brings all of the fun of building a deck and fighting an opponent, but adds new mechanics (dice rolling, pre-made decks, and avatars aka Phoenixborn). Build your own deck or play a pre-made one.
