Bottles are 12ml, instead of the standard 18ml. That said, if you don't intend to paint a lot of miniatures, it's more important to have a range of basic colors, rather than fewer colors of larger quantities. Still, does it really cost that much to make paint? You're still paying the same fixed cost for the bottles and packaging, and probably have some miniatures you already need painting. The five miniatures that come with the set are made by Archon miniatures. The miniatures are hard plastic, a high quality plastic used in hobby miniature wargames, as opposed to the soft plastic commonly used in boardgames. The miniatures are monopose with, at most, an arm attached to the main figure. This means the figures have poses similar to boardgame plastic miniatures. If you're familiar with Archon minaitures, these miniatures are less complicated to assemble, but less expressive in their poses. Army Painter has guidelines to paint these miniatures, which I find handy. As a beginner, though, don't expect the paint jobs you see in the advertising. You will also need basing materials, such as sand and optional tufts. The brush is synthetic. I don't have much of an opinion of brush included in paint sets, other than you should still have a high quality hobby brush for highlights and details, and some cheap synthetic brushes for painting basecoats, washes, drybrushing, terrain, etc. As an all in one beginning starter set, it's fine. But if you're shopping for a starter set, already have your miniatures to paint, and have money set aside to buy your own brushes, you may want to consider other starter sets. Army Painter sets for specific boardgames are worth looking at, as they also work as starter sets, even if you don't own the game.

Got this to step my game up to see what all the hype is about and it did not disappoint. Wish I would’ve gotten this style of paint before hand it’s also nice that it gives you five extra miniatures always good to add to your collection

Great starter set

Great starter set for getting into painting D&D miniatures. It comes with 5 figures to paint each with a guide on how to paint them. Also loves that it comes with washes and metallic paints.
