Mysterium Park Allegro Review
Mysterium Park Review

Welcome to Mysterium Park!

...with its cotton candies, its circus, and its dark secrets.

The park's former director has disappeared, but the investigation came to nothing. Since that night, weird things are happening on the fairground. As psychics, you're convinced that a ghost haunts this carnival...You're now intent on giving it a chance to reveal the truth.

In this cooperative stand-alone game, the ghost sends visions with illustrated cards. The psychics try to interpret them in order to rule out certain suspects and locations. Then, they'll seize their only chance to piece together what happened to the director. You have only six nights before the carnival leaves town. Open your minds and find the truth!

Set in the lights of a 1950's US fairground, Mysterium Park shares the same core mechanism with the famous award-winning game it reimplements, though bringing a different approach: it is smaller and faster, thanks to very quick setup and simplified rules. Mysterium is a milestone in immersive and eye-catching experiences close to role-playing; with Mysterium Park, you can enjoy the heart of it in a more condensed way.

Best version of Mysterium

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

We love the streamlined way Mysterium Park takes what's great about Mysterium and synthesizes it down into a quicker game. The only thing we wish is that the artwork for the different locations was more distinct and less dark.

Beautiful artwork and a similar but slightly shorter experience than Mysterium with a very small footprint to your collection.

Streamlined Mysterium

We're putting our copy of Mysterium up for trade after playing Mysterium Park. We like the simplified and streamlined game play as well as the shorter play time. Fantastic artwork and high-quality components.

Poor Man's Mysterium

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

I don't want to knock this little game because I think it has merit. The theme is great and the clue cards are an excellent art showpiece in their own right. The game starts to fall apart when you first encounter the location stage. Each location has the exact same feel to it (string lights, string lights everywhere) and the clues you're giving out start to not make much sense. The pace of the game is faster than a full game of Mysterium classic but the end result leaves you wanting more than Park has to offer. I think this game makes a fine play at what a slightly lighter version of Mysterium could have looked like but for our playgroup, the game falls flat of the experience you expect if you've played the first, full game. If you're looking for a cooperative mystery solver, get the original blue box and don't look back. NOTE: We use the clues from this game as an additional stack with our original game as potential clues to give out and it adds a great expansion to that aspect.

Good reimplementation of a great original.

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Interesting take on the original Mysterium. This game is quicker to setup and quicker to play than the original, but in some ways that means it doesn't have the same charm. In the original Mysterium the ghost player is trying to direct attention to one potential suspect, location, and weapon to find the guilty party much in the way you would in Clue. This game takes a different and somewhat odd approach by having the characters rule out an innocent person or rule out locations that it didn't take place. This feels odd to me. I kind of understand why they did this (ruling out one of nine suspects would take more time), but I think this could've been accomplished by limiting the pool rather than changing the approach. Lastly, I think there was a missed opportunity in the 2-player game. Rather than stick with the one player, multiple characters method I think they could've made a second deck of suspect/location cards and allowed the players to alternate between ghost and psychic roles. All told, I like this game. It's much easier to get to the table. I think it lacks some of the charm of the original, but the shorter play time and easier setup will get it to the table more often.

Mysterium but quicker.

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I loved Mysterium, but with the state of things, am unable to play most 3 or more player games. This is a quicker version which can be played by 2 or more players. All the components are high quality. I only like the main game more because the vision cards art style here is a bit more whimsical/adolescent. The art is still great, and fits the setting of a carnival perfectly though. I just prefer the setting of classic Mysterium better. I am glad to own both now!

Mysterium Park when you already own Mysterium

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Since we own and enjoy Mysterium didn’t know if we really needed this game. But finally decided to buy it as the easier set up seemed really nice. I’m very glad we bought it! The set up is SO much quicker. Plus we still play with all of our Mysterium cards and just add extra rounds to add in the weapon and/or motive.

Light version of mysterium

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Great version of Mysterium but slightly easier to get out to the table. The core mechanics are basically the same, but it’s 2 rounds instead of 3 (person and place, instead of person place and weapon). The final phase is the same where everyone chooses one pairing together. If you like mysterium and think setup is a bear, this is perfect.
