Welcome to the Northern Expanse, a place where nature is still unexplored, mystical and dangerous. When the humans first arrived, they thought they found an unspoiled paradise, filled with bountiful forests, lakes swimming with fish and cold freshwater flowing from the mountains. But as their settlements expanded and the surrounding forests grew thinner, nature itself pushed back. Great creatures known as Beasts emerged, and with their fangs, claws and mystical powers, they proved an incredible threat to the humans. In order to protect the settlements, humans enlisted specialised hunters, tasked with tracking and killing the Beasts before too many of their kin perish.

Beast is a one-vs-many type of game, in which one player takes on the role of a Beast: a giant, godlike creature who wants to fend off the humans invading her domains. All other players take the role of hunters, who cooperate in an epic hunt to track and kill the Beast. Which side will you join?

 • One Versus Many - Will you play alone as a powerful Beast or join a team of hunters?

 • Hidden Movement - The Beast moves with a deck of secret direction cards. Hunters must try their utmost to locate the Beast!

 • Card Drafting - Tense decisions to choose between the cards you need, and the cards you don't want your enemies to have.

Excelent hidden movement

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

It's a sensacional hidden movement boardgame with six different creatrures x all. It's better than Fury of Dracula.

Amazing art and production quality, lots of replay value. This game is a great hidden movement game, though maybe struggles a bit with 2 players

Beast is a good game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Beast is very fun overall. I am into horror-esque type games so this felt right up my alley. I have played several games at the three-player count and they all felt great. The secret movement along with the simple combat system and the large variety of characters to choose from make this game very fun and different each time. The mark of a good game to me is when, at the end of the game, people are talking about different tense/entertaining moments that they couldn't share during the game. Each time we play, my friends and I laugh over saying things like I thought you were going to look for me here and I was so nervous or If I would have played this card differently, I could have completed my objective. The only negative to this game is the rule book. Although I don't think it is as bad as many other reviewers have made it out to be, there were a few times where the rule book didn't answer some questions we had and we had to look online for an answer.

Awesome game!

Beast is a fantastic hidden movement game with INIS vibes. It will take you a couple of games to learn the cards and draft the hand you need (like INIS). Highly recommend this game!

My favorite all-against-one (tied with Fury of Dracula)!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The mechanics are not too difficult to teach, but this is not a game for inexperienced gamers. Great components and visually appealing.

Solid gameplay, poor components

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

To start off, the components of this game are lacking in quality. The meeples and the cards are of good quality and the style and art is great and enjoyable. However, anything made of cardboard, including the player boards, map board and mini map screen, wound tokens, grudges and ancient power tokens, etc are all of lesser quality. The layers of the player boards are not glued well, and the board maps folds already look worn and tattered out of the box. The shapes of the ancient power tokens in particular do not lend well to durability while the wound tokens, grudges and trail tokens are better they suffer the same cardboard glue issue. The character standees and their stands do not fit well together and I had to purchase plastic standees in order to comabt this issue. This is frustrating, especially considering the quality of the art on these pieces. Onto gameplay, the game is well-paced and feels strategic considering both the drafting mechanic and the ability to only play one card of each blue and red type on your turn. The characters are fun and have unique abilities that can change the feel of how each game plays out. Both the beast and hunter are enjoyable and offer an equally different approach to the game. The hidden movement is certainly not the main mechanic of the game, while interesting, it is often easy to roughly deduce the possible spaces that the beast is in through certain abilities and rules, and certain beasts work at a much faster pace, revealing more often with more frequent attacks. I myself have, so far, found the chase of the hunters side more enjoyable, but the power of the beast and the sneaking about the map makes them enjoyable as well. I wish there were more options for lower player counts(2-3) in regards to contract options and the ability to play with the larger map side of the board. Luckily, there is a solid community and studio midhall has a whole page of their site decided to custom community created contracts, unfortunately most of them at that player count still use the smaller side of the map, but at least it offers some variability to strategy and end-game goals. Overall, very enjoyable so far, but will need many more plays to completely master both sides of the game, which I think will only increase its enjoyabilty and tight gameplay, but at the same time may reduce its replayability, with learning who are the stronger beasts and characters(a meta, so to speak). Luckily the card drafting aspect and the different types of cards have kept that replayability fresh so far, due to the need for different card actions at different moments and situations of the game. Dissapointed with the quality of components but worth the purchase if you enjoy drafting and hidden movement integrated well into a cool and fantastical theme, and I'm eager to play more.
