Suburbia Review

Plan, build, and develop your small borough into a major metropolis. Use hex-shaped building tiles to add residential, commercial, civic, and industrial areas, as well as special points of interest that provide benefits and take advantage of the resources of nearby boroughs.

Suburbia is a tile-laying game in which each player tries to build an economic engine and infrastructure that will be self-sufficient, and eventually become both profitable and encourage population growth. As your income increases, you'll have more cash to purchase better buildings, such as an international airport or a high rise office building. As your reputation increases, the population will grow as well. The player with the largest population wins!

Suburbia 2E

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is a fantastic tile-laying game and city-building simulator. The interactions between all the different types of tiles make the game's theme shine through and as your city grows it takes on its own distinct character. The rules are a bit fiddly and it is worth watching some playthrough videos or reading some gaming forums to clarify things on your first few games, but overall it's incredibly fun and addictive.

Great game, wish it wasn't as unforgiving to early mistakes.

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Much nicer art that the first edition, and I will ever game came storage cases / inserts of this caliber. As for the game, it is unforgiving to players that make a few bad decisions early one. It's possible for a few bad decisions to leave you in a cycle of never being able to pay for any good tiles, while other players, especially if they can scoop up airports, can get caught in a virtuous cycle. A catch up mechanism would be helpful for newer players.

Good City Building Fun

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This is a great game that really can be as competitive as you like it to be. Much like a city management video game, you can play it simply to make a neighborhood you find aesthetically pleasing, or you can focus in hard on goals and building an efficient money-making, population-growing machine. One of the few competitive games my friends and I play that leaves nobody sour at the game's end, because even if you lose, everyone will have built a city borough with its own story to tell. Also, as far as the presentation goes, it has nice big tiles and pieces with some good illustrations, and a really nice storage solution built into the box, including some mindful design to include future expansion, of which I hear there are a lot. Definitely recommend it for chill euro-game fans, and maybe even more casual board gamers. Its not too complex, but it has just enough to make for an interesting puzzle every time you play.

Tight but Thinky

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Suburbia is easy to teach but has a deep and strategic gameplay. With so many tiles you'll have a different game every time as not all are used each game. Managing your income and reputation will be a balance in order to make sure your city can grown. Component tiles are thick cardboard and the design is great. You're city at the end of the game will look so good. The Game Trayz help organize and make set up and tear down easy. The base box is designed to hold both the base game and the expansions.

Amazing

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

A fantastic game that is easy to learn but has a lot of depth and great variety with the tiles and paths to victory. It is much more tactical than strategic, but is the closest a board game has ever come to SimCity.

An updated classic

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

A great city-building game of medium complexity, very thematic throughout the whole game, with high interaction between players, now with much-improved art, including trays for organizing all the components.

Definitive version of the game for me

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I loved this game when it came out a few years back, but always thought the artwork was really lackluster. This edition of the game provides brand new art, sturdier components and and fantastic insert for everything. If you have the old version, upgrade to this. If you are new, GET THIS and you'll have a fantastic time.

If you liked Sim City, get this game!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I grew up playing Sim City and this game feels like I’m playing it. Wife and I absolutely love this game! The components are high quality and the colorful graphics on each tile add beauty to your city. Other reviewers may complain about the scoring mechanism being overwhelming and tedious but we don’t mind it at all and actually find it quite fun helping each other keep track of everything. Each player does get a colored player aid to help you remember the order in which you run through your turn. If you do get the expansion, I recommend playing the dual market variant. It makes the setup time a lot shorter.

Cheaper is better

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Borrowed the 1st edition and wanted a copy, but didn’t want to pay for the collector’s edition nor did I want the huge box and expansions. This 2nd edition keeps the new art, but loses the huge box and price of the collector’s edition.
