Castles of Burgundy: Special Edition

Upgrading the castles definitely change the game for me. The towering structures look really nice on the board. Fit nicely with the theme.

I have a fairly large collection of board games and I thought that nothing could surprise me anymore. I often heard about Castles of Burgundy, that it was a good Euro game with good mechanics, but the regular edition looked boring to me and didn’t make me want to buy it. But this box caught my eye, and I couldn’t find a reason not to try this game. And here's what I have to say. I was wrong when I didn’t pay attention to this game earlier, even in the regular edition it will give you many interesting games, but if you purchase the special edition this game will become the crown jewel of your collection. The components of this game look luxurious, which further enhances the impression of the game process. You don't want to let go of the components, and the box always stands out on the shelf among other board games. Lately, when my friends and I are going to play, we don’t have a discussion about which game. Yes, the price of the game is quite high, but considering the emotions it brought me, I don’t regret it at all

Honestly, I bought this on a whim after seeing great reviews of the game online through various websites. I was looking for good 2+ player games to play and this one consistently came up. I finally played a game last night with a group of 4 players and I must say that this game lived up to the hype. We honestly probably did not play the game 100% and likely mixed in some expansion packs and left out other expansion packs, but that did not take away from the experience. Our first playthrough took a long time, but the time passed quickly as everyone was engaged and having fun. This is also my first special edition board game purchase. The quality of this product is top-notch. I don't have any complaints in that department outside of my first time packing up the game after knocking loose all the game pieces from the cardboard. This was a little confusing at first, but after playing the game it went a lot smoother.

Castles of Burgundy is a classic, and for good reason. A great blend of dice placement and tile laying mechanics, sprinkled with some set collection and very minor upgrade/engine building elements. Lots of crunchy decisions and a pleasant feeling of building out your estate each game :). This edition of the game comes in the most oversized box, but still not unreasonably sized when compared to many of the kickstarter monstrosities out there. And inside the box is the most colorful and attractive version of CoB by far, replete with 3D sculpts of all of the titular castles! The dual layered player boards are a nice touch, as are all of the upgraded components including metal silverlings, wooden goods tiles, and larger hexes with explanations as to each tile's effect on the back of that tile. I could go on about the gameplay and the production quality, and I haven't even mentioned the exclusive Vinyards expansion, but it's all been covered already all over the internet. This is the copy to own!
