BattleTech: Beginner Box (2022)

I played my first game of Battletech tonight and had a blast! Here are some thoughts on it it has stripped down rules vs the full version. It has flat terrain, so no worrying about what different heights have to offer. No heat, so no random bad things can happen to you. No...flanking? I'm not sure what else is missing, this is my first time in the game. This is a great way to learn the basics and left me craving more. combat is smooth and fast. Lots of d6 rolling, some luck, some strats, some surprises. A great mix. It takes some math to figure out if you hit and how hard, but it's super basic subtraction and addition. If you are on the fence, I'd suggest picking it up and grabbing some extra d6s. You are gonna love battling with giant mechs!

A great intro to the battletech hobby. The figures aren't available in any of the other sets, so I recomend getting this one first. If you got a different set, then you'd be faced with the prospect of paying out for the minis when you don't really need the rules and other bits. But if it's the first BT product you buy, it will be a good intro and help you decide if you want to invest more.

There have been many iterations of this classic strategic board game it can be hard to pick a favorite, but this is a very good presentation of the original rules perfect for newbies, with clear and easy to understand rules and instructions, great art, and cardboard “cheat sheets” of the charts and info you need to reference during gameplay so you don’t have to fray your book. I like the attempt at giving two minis (which are great themselves!) that are roughly comparable; and includes some variants in the record sheets provided. However, there are only two. I understand it’s to be a low price point but in for introducing the game, but I think 4 (a Lance) would be better. My opinion. My only real issue is the maps. You get a two-sided map printed on paper of questionable quality; it doesn’t tear easily but seems to take ink weird. I feel the maps are a little blurry and that sucks because the look of the maps is very nice and has depth; but it’s ruined by the coloration. If we can’t get two maps to place side by side then we deserve one that is crisp and snazzy; but one plus is it isn’t glossy making it easier to read under lighting without having to deal with glare. So overall I think it’s one of the best intro sets released by any company these days, definitely makes you interested in the classic box set but it doesn’t force you to. I really enjoyed this box!

A great starter box, with rules a mat and a couple of mechs and their data cards. I bought this to try and get my Granddaughter off her phone when she is with me.

Nice little package if you're curious as to what BTech is about. There's enough in here to help you decide if you want to get further into the system or wave off. The game components are very nice so you really can't go wrong in giving this a try.

Using the simplified rules this is enough to let new players get a feel for the game. It's writing is directly with enough examples that most children can understand what is intended with the game play. Great for parents who wants to include their kids into the hobby.

I found this to be a great reintroduction to the world of BattleTech after having taken a 30-year break. It was a good refresher and a nice way to restart without going into all of the crunchy rules.

This was a gift for my nephew. I played Battletech as a kid and he’s the same age I was when my brother and I started. My nephew is very excited.

Decent intro into Battletech. The box has clean rules and unit information, but only comes with two plastic figures, which would be the only downside I have for it.
