Wizkids has improved so much...
It's an older figure and it's fine. The problem is that Wizkids has improved on its sculpts, prints, and paintjobs so much in the last two years that looking back on the older stuff is disappointing.

Decent sculpt, sloppy paint job
This figure has a nice pose and good detail on the sculpt, but the paint job is sloppy, especially on the face where it obscures most of the nose and mouth.

Odd choice for a common
This mini is of a deep dwarf, a Duergar. It's a common in the new set. Now, here's where my issues start to creep in. The Duergar are a rare race in most settings. When they were originally introduced, they (like the now hideously-overused Drow) were mentioned only in the most obscure of folktales and legends, if at all. So, here we have yet another Duergar as a common mini. *sigh* The other issue: it Is apparently using a wooden shield. Wood, as one might imagine, is in short supply in the Underdark. Now, it's possible it looted it from an adventurer, or traded for it, or got it from some magical Underdark forest that grows real trees, but it would make so much more sense for them to have given it an all-metal shield. The good news: It's a decent sculpt in a decent pose, and can be used with a little imagination for just about any dwarf, especially (given the mace) a cleric. Unfortunately for me, the one I got has very little detail on the face, certainly nowhere near as much as the pic here shows. In fact, it's basically a smooth oval with two eye spots and a slight bulge for a nose. It basically looks like it's wearing Jason's hockey mask. Points off on Quality for that and for a generally mediocre paint job.

Great deep dwarf!
One of the best deep dwarves, really glad to see this in the line. Very detailed and cool action pose, better than common in my opinion!

Great details
The details on this miniature are great. From the mace head to the spiked shoulder plates this miniature has an excellent aesthetic. Add the action pose and this is a very good duergar. Great for use as a villain or pc.
