Intelligence mid-air
This blue dragon is hesitating in its flight, perhaps even breaking the direction of the flight and stopping to hover. It seems to be analyzing the situation, not going for an all-out attack but using its evil mind to choose the best way to both pulverize its enemies and ensure its own survival. The wings are rather small, and pulled back (a bit consciously) so that you can get the best view of the body. The pose is also a bit self-conscious, even heraldic ("a dragon rampant", anyone?)! Like its smaller sibling in the Elemental Evil set, the tail is one of the best features. Muscular and powerful, it adds to the feeling that this dragon does not fly on instinct but with total control. But unlike that dragon, here the limbs steal the spotlight even more. Big and powerful, dry and lean with no fat and the skin tight on the muscles, and yeah, heraldic, like I said, they seem to be full of controlled tension. And like the tail, decorated with really nice white bony spikes. There's also blue spikes and scales, and I like how the teeth are of a different white than the white spikes. All in all the details are top class, and the pose is excellent in both revealing the body and conveying an attitude (intelligence!), but it does have a certain feeling of stiffness and self-consciousness ("look how I'm doing this profile pose!"). Still, it remains an excellent mini, and the pose is certainly different from all other flying dragons. The price is a bit high but there's so much to love in this beautiful blue dragon.
