2D modern tactical card combat

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Warfighter is a 2D tactical card game in which you lead a team of soldiers on a mission through hostile territory. To reach your objective, you must play location cards from your hand that spawns enemy soldiers and determines how easy it is to reach your objective. Each round, your soldiers get actions to move, attack, and use equipment, then the enemy gets to spawn reinforcements, retaliate, and, if necessary, move towards you. The mission ends when you either reach the round limit, your team is wiped out, or you accomplish your mission. Overall, the series is pretty decent and can be one hell of a rabbit hole of expansions if you get into it. The main downside is the rule book, which is about 75% expansion rules. It is very nice to be able to have one universal rule book for all your expansions, but it makes the game daunting for someone who doesn't realize that most of the book isn't relevant to what they got in the box. It is an easy-to-learn system once you figure out the basics. The modern variant has you leading a team against Middle Eastern armies and insurgents and South American drug cartels. The box is a bit light on components, so I would recommend only playing a maximum of 3-4 players unless you have the WWII version. The cost of the soldiers is a bit higher, which means you probably even in single-player games won't have as many soldiers as you would in the WWII variant.

Warfighter Modern is Fun and Beautiful Components

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I love the entire Warfighter series. I already had Warfighter WWII, Warfighter WWII Pacific and Warfighter Modern Shadow Warfighter. I'm very glad I added Warfighter Modern. Great game that comes with both Middle East military and insurgents as well as jungle. The game paints a great narrative while going through the mission. It's about 50/50 on whether you will be successful. Lots of good support on the games on the forums like BGG.

Great special ops feeling!

I love Call of Duty PC games and this brings back the feeling on a card game basis (At least for me..). Choose your team, gears, mission and objectives and you are ready to go. Picking up gears takes times as you need to watch out your resource and load out value, but its fun to get to choose and see what you bring for the mission :) Cards are very good quality, playmate has a nice touch of the tactical back ground ( Footlocker expansion). The bullet dice looks awesome! Make sure to get all the expansions to add more variety in the game play :)

Quite Enjoyable!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Really enjoy this immersive card driven game! Gearing up and heading out on missions gives a feel like no other game. Let's my wife and I get our 'Strike Back' kick waiting for the next season (I play the Brit and she plays the Yank - needless to say we have the expansions). Lots of replay ability and a campaign set up to boot.

Just.... Garbage

Average rating of 2 out of 5 stars

I own hundreds of board games and this one takes the cake as being the worst by far. The photoshop work on the components is extraordinarily poor and the gameplay is boring and repetitive.

Modern combat game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Warfighter is a card-driven game depicting hypothetical modern combat scenarios. Your squad of US soldiers (many of the characters are actual US soldiers - a VERY cool touch and outstanding tribute to our troops) vs. drug runners in the jungle or insurgents in the Middle East. There's a lot to like about this game. To start with, you decide how you want to build your squad, and how you want to equip them - within the constraints of your "budget" of points for squad building. Once you have your squad put together and equipped, you head straight into battle, moving from location to location in an attempt to reach the enemy HQ and fulfill your objective. The base game comes with several scenarios and several sets of enemies, so you can play for a good while before you'll need any expansions. The playmat is - different. The paper is nice and thick, and seems like it should hold up for quite a few plays. The finish is a bit tacky, though, and the layout doesn't really leave you room to add enemy units to the various locations. The good news is that once you get used to how the game operates, you really don't need the mat. The first thing you notice about this game, though, is the awesome looking bullet dice. They are SUPER cool! They don't roll great, though, so we generally use regular polyhedral dice. Your mileage may vary. The problem we had with them is that unless you have a perfectly flat, level surface, they don't stop rolling. They rolled off our table, so we started rolling them in the box top - but it was slightly bowed, so they rolled until they butted up against the side of the box. They're usable, but I'd rather use regular dice now that the "COOL" has worn off. I had high hopes for this game, and I have to say - it really delivered.
