Alma Mater @ 59:00

It's the dawn of a new age in Europe! During the early 15th century, universities are being established to challenge the influence of religion on academic studies. Little did the founders of these institutions know that this would ignite academic pursuits that would bring about a cultural revolution.

In the early Renaissance, plyers will serve as headmasters of an emerging university. Your obvious goal is to become the most successful and prestigious institution of higher learning. To achieve these goals, you must attract exceptional students, the best teaching staff in various disciplines, and exchange knowledge with other competing schools.

Enjoy the upcoming semester!

I have to admit, I haven't played this game yet. This game does fall in my wheel house of playing, and I know I will enjoy it.

Solid worker-placement game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I work on a college campus so the idea of a game that somehow ties into that was what got me. Once it arrived though, I found a solid worker-placement game with some fun elements that others don't have. Also, the production value on the little book game pieces is top-notch.

Alma Mater - Got to be Book Smart

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

What shines for me in this game is the economic engine around how the market is set by the players controlling it with their book values. It is important to have others want your publications. For fine balance with this game and something, players need to understand.

The components are great, the game is a lot of fun! It can be a pretty competitive and mean game if you want to mess with eachother.

Try before you buy

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

This is hard for me to pin down. I typically don’t mind a tight resource control game. Usually I quite enjoy them. But it might be a little too tight in Alma Mater. In my plays it seems to take an entire round just to build up to accomplish 1 goal. That’s nearly 2 rounds out of 6 to even get started and even that’s assuming another player doesn’t block you or take what you need. I’m going to try it one more time but if it doesn’t click with me it’ll probably get culled. I’m not saying it’s a bad game. It’s good. Just not for me. If you like difficult resource management you’ll probably like it but I highly recommend everyone to at least it try it first before they buy it.
