Great game
Great game with a lot of content, and even a solo play. Quality components. Thank you

Worth the time investment
This is a great starting point for Shadows of Brimstone. This game has so much character and complexity that I enjoyed from games like Descent 1st and 2nd edition. It's components are well made and an awesome way to immerse yourself into the world. The added bonus of traveling to other worlds with old West characters is a fish out of water story you don't get I'm other dungeon crawlers. I've had an amazing time already. I would recommend this game to a player who is ready to do a ton of management and dice rolling recieve an experience you will thoroughly enjoy.

A Modern Classic
A solid and highly entertaining dungeon crawler that is infinitely expandable, I would recommend this to anyone.

Luke Evans
After having played the Feudal Japan version of Shadows of Brimstone, I decided to invest the wild west core sets, and even got them during a sale - result! The game offers endless replayability, and there’s so much to see and do, that you might as well invest in both core sets, and add a few expansions in there as you go!

A good Campaign game
I love D&D. I love Cthulhu. I love campaign games. This game mixes a love of all three of those combined. There are aspects of the game that may be confusing at first, but as you play things become clearer. I've enjoyed each of the games that I have played of it. - My lady has also really enjoyed playing it too.

Why did I wait so long?
This is a great game if you like a dungeon crawl, thematic settings, character progression, and cool miniatures -- note: you do have to assemble them. The gameplay is fun, I really like the mini-game between scenarios and the narrative that forms as you play (without being a specific story). The expansion possibilities are fantastic. Too bad I waited so long to purchase it.

First Dungeon crawler board game
This is my first Dungeon crawler board game and I love it. It definitely took me a bit to learn, watched some YouTube videos and read the book, but now me and my wife cannot stop playing it. I wish it came with more characters to play with but it's a good starting kit. I definitely recommend this, you don't need to be a board game expert to learn and enjoy it.

A sandbox dungeon crawling experience
I’ve been eyeing this game for quite some time, debating whether or not I should dip my toes into it. I’ve finally decided to give in and so far it’s been quite an exciting experience. First of all, as a dungeon crawler «Shadows of brimstone» is definitely a unique game: both theme wise (weird west with some Lovecraftian notions) as well as in terms of its gameplay concept (a sandbox adventure with random dungeons and plethora of thematic encounters). I really can’t think of any other product on the market that comes close to this, and trust me – I DID my research. So far I only have a few plays behind my back but I decided to cross-check my personal experience against things I’ve read online and made a brief overview of the game’s main high/lows: + “Shadows of Brimstone†is brimming (see what I did there?) with theme: from beautiful illustrations to immersive narrative text on cards. - The game doesn’t come with many missions out of the box (but because of random dungeon layout and unique thematic encounters your every adventure will feel different). + The game can be played in a true solo mode – no need to worry if you have troubles managing several different characters at the same time. - The game can certainly be a table hog. Though there are ways to mitigate that (you can partly disassemble the map as you go deeper into the dungeon or introduce an ergonomic organization of game components (personally I use a couple of universal trays for tokens and a card holder) table space might still be a point of concern. + Deep character progression - there are many things that will affect the way your character grows. Though I have not experienced every aspect of it I can definitely tell that the potential is there and it is a strong one. - The bookkeeping can be cumbersome and overwhelming (especially when it comes to character progression – see previous point). During the adventure you will have to make notes (stat changes, penalties, gained abilities, certain items bought in towns). There are ways to mitigate that (from third party apps to official extended character sheets) but it would be nice if the game came with some solution out of the box. +/- Gameplay might be too simplistic/random for some players. There’s no hiding the fact that this game is a “dice fest bonanzaâ€Â. You probably won’t find the same level of decision making that’s present in games like Imperial Assault, Gloomhaven or Sword & Sorcery. +/- No real campaign per se. If you expect a dungeon crawler to entertain you with intricate narrative and mind-blowing twists this game might not be for you. What you get is a list of missions that can be mixed to create a loosely connected story. The game wants players to go an extra mile by trying to connect the dots and build their own narrative based on events that unfold (something similar to Runebound 3rd ed. or Eldritch Horror). Personally, I like this gameplay concept – the game gives you creative freedom to create your own stories and provides an adequate framework for this. On top of that some campaign games can feel like a burden with their 100+ hours of story. Here I can choose the length of my campaign: 10, 15 or even 4 missions. Lastly, you can always just play a series of missions as a pure adventure with no necessary story reasoning. + It should also be mentioned that content support for this game is phenomenal (both official and fan-made). At the end I think I got what I expected – a pure sandbox style dungeon crawling experience with random dungeons, thematic loot and exciting encounters.

Fun and Engaging Dungeon Crawl with a Unique Setting
Put simply, my gaming group and I adore Shadows of Brimstone. We are fans of most of Flying Frog's other boardgames as well (especially Touch of Evil), mainly because we really enjoy the casual, cooperative, heavily narrative style of the games. Shadows of Brimstone: City of Ancients is a great introduction to the game. Even though there are a lot of rules, the game plays very smoothly once the players learn them, and the revised core set comes with a host of beautiful components, including some fairly nice miniatures that are quite easy to assemble and look great on the table. The vast number of expansions add tremendous depth and breadth to the game play experience, and the best thing is that everything is modular, so you can pretty much get whatever expansions you want and plug them in without difficulty. Even without any expansions, however, the City of Ancients core set provides a lot of content, including 12 missions, all of which are good (I've played most of them).

Fun Dice Chucker
Shadows of Brimstone may not have the cleanest and most intriguing mechanics, but it is overflowing with atmosphere and narrative which makes it extremely fun. The revised edition has easier to assemble miniatures and has streamlined some rules. If you like Dungeon Crawlers and If you enjoy RPG's this is a solid game. Really enjoying my experience with it so far.
