During the Pacific War the Japanese never really developed coordinated close air support for their ground forces in the same way as the Americans and British. However, some missions to attack specific positions, such as during the Japanese campaign to take Henderson Field on Guadalcanal did see some Army and Naval air-craft attacking in support of the wider operation.
