Worth the wait

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Lizard Wizard was well worth the wait. I attempted to pick this up at Gencon this year, but missed out. Ever since first reading (and watching) some play-through videos, it had me hooked. The artwork is sublime and the mechanics of the game are simple enough for a young kid (8-12), but strategic enough to appease the appetites of older gamers.

Loving the Lizard

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I loved every minute of this game. It has so many different mechanics blending together almost seamlessly, push your luck, set collection, resource management, engine building, and even economics. Yes, economics! In fact, this game made me realize how much I love economics as a mechanic despite always avoiding economic games because of the dry themes they usually have. Lizard Wizard does it in such a fun way that you don't even realize you're playing an economic game. Cashing in a couple of toadstools you picked with your familiar for a fistful of mana, then crashing the market so that the next person can't reap the benefits is just so rewarding. The art is fantastic and flavorful, I just wish there were more of the unique wizards instead of repeating the same art on some of the cards. It's a game that doesn't take long to teach and learn, so you can hop right in and play, but it has a hidden amount of depth to it. The game has so many paths to victory that you will want to play it again and again, trying out new strategies. Overall, I highly recommend this game.

It's magical.

This is an excellent set collection, stock market game. If you're a fan of Raccoon Tycoon, then you will like this as well. It plays very similar to Tycoon, but the theme is a bit more interesting (wizards that are lizards). Additionally, there are some minor alterations that give more choices for players. Oh, the art is fantastic too.

Great Family + game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

My family and I enjoyed our time in the Magical land of Astoria. We were charmed by the beautifully illustrated wizards, creatures and locals. This is a well-crafted set collection/ action selection game with an interesting point puzzle to solve. Components are top-notch and the insert makes it a breeze to set up and takedown. We look forward to our future adventures in the magical land of reptilian practicioners of magic.

If you liked Racoon Tycoon.

More of the same, and in my opinion a bit better, I like the theme more, the economy is VERY similar but the overall game feels like a bit more developed version of the RT game loop. If you liked RT I feel like unless you were married to the theme this is a no brainer. The insert is GREAT too!
