An updated reimplementation of the Victory Games' classic.

Vietnam: 1965-1975 recreates one of the longest, most complex, and least understood conflicts in US history in all of its military and political aspects. The game features hidden VC units, airmobility, riverrines, national morale, pacification, ARVN effectiveness, and many other nuances that allow the player to grasp the experience of what it might have been like to conduct the war in Vietnam.

The game includes several small scenarios and two campaign games. Each year is divided into four seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), and each season has two turns (so roughly 6 weeks per turn). The map scale is roughly 6 miles per hex and unit are, generally, battalions or regiments.

First published in 1984, the game has always represented the quintessential grand operational Vietnam game. This 2nd Edition fixes the ambiguities and errors in the original rules and enhances the game with new graphics. It also adds plenty of charts and aids to optimize and streamline play. The game remains faithful to the original design - no unnecessary chrome or rules have been added.

To help with game play, the counters have been increased to 9/16" and the size of the map hexes have increased according. Information markers remain the original 1/2" size.

Amazing reprint of the definitive game on Vietnam. My original copy has been on my table many times through the years, it can now be retired. Hours and hours of enjoyment with this system.

Grognard's reprint of Victory Games classic: Excellent job

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Vietnam '65-75 is a fascinating game that brings innovative concepts and engrossing mechanics to an operational/strategic simulation of the war. GMT's reprint of the 1980s Victory Game upgrades the components very nicely, solves some of the small glitches in the original printing and generally improves quality of life. The game is heavy and intense: rules are excellent, generally very tight and well presented, but learning and mastering the mechanics is a project not for the faint of heart. This current edition adds some clarifications and a nice section of designers notes, but does not significantly change the original rules. The campaign game (what, play anything other than the campaign game?) is an intense experience and major time committment) but one of the more rewarding gaming projects I've undertaken in the past decades. There are fascinating echoes of Vietnam 65-75 in the more recent COIN series game, Fire in the Lake: the former is much more granular, the latter is probably better at providing a survey of the war (in a sitting or two, rather than a year of Saturdays). Highly recommend the game to hard-core wargamers, not quite as much of a 'way of life' as Advanced Squad Leader, but comparable, and definitely rewarding as a simulation.
