Driven by their successes, the resistance has gained popular support and entire regions are in open rebellion. In a desperate attempt to stay in control, some government leaders are publicly supporting the reforms demanded by the resistance. But allegiances are constantly shifting, and can be bought for the right price.

The opportunity for intrigue and bluff has never been greater. The cost of failure couldn't be higher.

Even with talk of reformation, only one can survive.

Changes up the Entire Gameplay for Coup

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Coup: Reformation definitely spices up the base game with its new mechanics, and additions to the game. It addresses plenty such as de-powering the Duke by adding the "Treasury Reserve", and replacing the "Ambassador" role with the "Inquisitor" role. Granted, the Inquisitor is considered a little OP, but it serves its purpose quite well considering you'd be playing with large groups (6-10 players). This brings me to my next point, the team variant which allows for plenty of new strategy in the game as you can switch up your OWN team (for 1 coin) and SOMEONE ELSE'S (for 2 coins)! New strategies, mechanics, and tweaks to the rules add for more fun to the game! If you don't own this, a must-have because I can assure you this; You're not going to want to play Coup without Reformation present!

New mechanic to the main game.

This expansion adds the concept of faction , where members of the same group can only attack members of another group . Interestingly this expansion is the addition of the possibility to change the faction of another player against his will . This greatly changes the course of the game. I like the basic game because of dynamism, but the cards of the factions change a little game for those who want to innovate a bit .

You can't assassinate me, I'm in your team!

The Reformation expansion for Coup adds teams. You can't attack somebody who is in your team. You can also pay 1 coin to change teams or 2 coins to change other person's team. That money goes to a common treasury and anybody (but the Duke) can steal from it, and it can add up to quite a bit of money. The teams add a whole new level of strategy, since you have to coup a person when you have 10 coins or more, you can effectively force that person to coup somebody in particular (because it might be the only person that's not in a particular team). This expansion also comes with a replacement to the Ambassador: the Inquisitor, who can force another player to change a character they influence. On top of that, the deck comes with added cards so you can play Coup with up to 10 players. I definitely recommend this expansion.
