King of Tokyo 2E: Monster Box

This is for you if you do not own king of tokyo but love the game. The game is simple and fun. Dice is huge in your hand and feel like the giant monster they are fighing to be the king. Note: box insert is not sleeve friendly

What’s not to like about the idea of giant monsters during it out in Tokyo? The game has simple mechanics and a fast game cycle - 20 to 30 minutes for a game. This makes it a great game for introducing people to board gaming, and also for a quick ‘party’ game with a small group of friends. Despite the simple mechanics of the game, there is a reasonable level of strategy in picking a path for how to to win. A good casual game! Component quality is good and the game pieces are both visually appealing and sturdy.

Easy to set up and play for quick fun. Played a bunch of games back to back with my brothers.

If you don't have King of Tokyo yet, this is the version you should start with. This game is probably the standard bearer for American-style games, in contrast to Euro-style titles, and King of Tokyo should be a staple of any gamer's shelf. Imagine the schoolyard playground game King of the Mountain turned into a board game and this is what you get: be the strongest monster in the center of the circle of Tokyo, and keep anyone from pushing you out! The game is quick to teach, quick to play, and very tactilely satisfying to roll those chunky dice! The negative is that this isn't a truly deluxe package. They didn't incorporate the Dark Edition 'wickedness' mechanic with ability tiles that balance out the strategy of rolling for points. They didn't double-side the game board with the King of New York map. They didn't include some of the characters that have been released over the course of the game's series - in fact, you get two sets of power-up cards included for characters that aren't even in this box! (Presumably you have them from other editions or convention promos.) Like I said, if you're starting out, this is the best edition of the game available in 2022. If you're a long-time fan who already has an earlier set, there are several staples missing from this where it's probably not worth the extra investment for yourself - but it's a great gift to introduce the title to your friends!

Amazing game for people of all ages for some dice rolling fun!

The larger box size is awesome. Finally I can consolidate all my stuff into one box. Terrible value if you already have everything.

This is not a big box - don't know what Iello was thinking - it's like 3 inches wider than the og box. I have every expansion, single monster pack and promo out there, I was hoping it could fit it all - the ONLY way is to chuck the insert. PLUS it's an odd rectangular size - why not make a deeper square box, or Ticket to Ride size? Seriously disappointed in this

The King of Tokyo Monster Box is great for any game night. It has King of Tokyo plus the first two expansions. A great game for families or if you want to make it a tad more complex with power ups for each monster can be done. A must have for your game shelf.
