Terrain Crate: Abandoned Mine

I have so far enjoyed this set. It is well done including the sculpt details. I was pleased the carts fit on the track nicely, though you can't push them along. The track pieces can be pushed pretty tightly together so that the seems are minimal but I wish they could lock together somehow.

Great set for a small mining battle map. Slightly too small for some RPG minis to position on or in.

This set's track and mine carts don't have to represent an abandoned mine, but can easily fit into a 1/48 O scale scene. As a model railroader, not a gamer, I will build a ledge about 2 inches higher than my functioning narrow gauge railroad spur, where the set's two mine cars can be waiting to dump their loads. I will spray-paint all of the set's trackage pieces rust color, then repaint the track ties various shades of brown and gray. Finally, the rail heads will get a thin wash of silver to suggest occasional traffic. I doubt that any miners will be present as this little mine (a dark hole in the hillside) is not a 24-hour operation.

I'm using these for basing on my Kings of War free dwarf army. The detail is consistent with other Mantic stuff nowadays, which is solid. The straight pieces are 50mm, so they're perfect for cavalry and monster multibases. I got two, which is going to be about right for a ~2000 point army. Properly scaled for 28mm minis.
