Manufacturer: Next Move Games

At the turn of the 16th Century, King Manuel I commissioned Portugal's greatest artisans to construct grandiose buildings. After completing the Palaces of Evora and Sintra, the king sought to build a summer pavilion to honor the most famous members of the royal family. This construction was intended for the most talented artisans - whose skills meet the splendor that the royal family deserves. Sadly, King Manuel I died before construction ever began.

In Azul: Summer Pavilion, players return to Portugal to accomplish the task that never began. As a master artisan, you must use the finest materials to create the summer pavilion while carefully avoiding wasting supplies. Only the best will rise to the challenge to honor the Portuguese royal family.

Azul 3

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I like Summer Pavilion, but it is probably my least favorite of the original 3 Azul games. The areas you fill (stars) have a huge affect on end game scoring. I like this version, just not quite as much as standard Azul or Stained Glass.

Excellent Azul Step Up

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I really enjoy the original Azul game and wanted to try this edition as I'd heard good things. The gameplay is similar to original Azul (draw tiles from the factories), but tile placement rules and scoring are a little more of a puzzle. Also, there is a definitive end of this game as there are 6 rounds to game end whereas the original is dependent on when a player completes a row. All-in-all, I like the changes and it still plays very similar with some added complexity. If you're looking for a step up from original Azul this is a great game or if you think original Azul is too simple for your liking give this one a try!

Better than the Original, but not different enough to own both

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I first played the original Azul and fell in love with the concepts it offers. When I tried out the sequel (Stained Glass of Sintra), I was rather disappointed so I was not eager to try Summer Pavilion. A friend of mine brought it over and we tried it out. It really felt like Azul 2.0 for me. It improves most every aspect of the original. While I wouldn't necessarily say get it if you already have the original; definitely buy this version if you dont have a copy or you know someone in your circle that doesn't have Azul already.

Best version of Azul yet

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

At first I thought it might just be the same game with a different board and different tiles. But this is my new favorite tile laying and Azul game . They added more mechanics to the game so you can switch up your strategy. And they fixed the 1st player token to make it a little more fair for other players. I really enjoyed it will keep it at the top of my stack for a while.

A good variant on the original game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

A good variant on the original game while providing different strategic choices. Waiting to place tiles at the end of gathering and the ability to save 4 tiles provides a lot more flexibility.

I highly recommend this game.

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

We have the original Azul and had heard great things about Summer Pavilion. We have played in many times in the short time we've had it. It's a great game and the flip sides of the boards provide some flexibility.
