It’s a good start

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

The book has been updated with the erratas to starship combat and other things, so that’s awesome. The print is small, but it’s complete and a great buy if you’re just starting out.

What pocket will this fit in?

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Every single core rulebook should have side bookmarks like Starfinder has. It makes navigating a loaded rulebook so much easier! I love a book that is exactly what I’m expecting to a T. It’s Pathfinder in space. Obviously there’s plenty of differences between the two, & I personally think Starfinder has more to it, but coming in with an understanding of what you’re getting into is helpful. My usual issue with space themed rulebooks is the unfortunate need to fill in much of the lore. Space is endless & there are innumerable types of alien races and planet varieties. Any space book I’ve read usually establishes 5-10 core alien types that fill in all major roles in the lore. This is a minor complaint because it’s easy enough to add your own alien types and swap out certain things here and there to fit your own game/story, but it does make character creation feel a little lengthy at first because each player should have some sort of base understanding of each race/class. Unlike fantasy games which have mainly established archetypes (orc, elf, dwarf, etc.), it’s a little harder to just throw out something like, “do you want to be an android, a lashunta? Maybe a Shirren?” That’s more an issue with coming into any sort of new lore for gameplay & if your group is up to digging into the lore, there’s plenty of great stuff to get into. It boils down to what you’re looking for. Do you want a game you can pick up & expect to have running in a couple weeks? Or a game where you should spend some time getting to really know, maybe a month or so to really familiarize yourself? You can make an argument for both, but Starfinder is tailored towards the latter, it’s a beefy space book. The reward for spending time with the rulebook is worth it because there’s just about everything covered within the pages. Note: in order to condense the rulebook to “pocket” size, the font is particularly small. It doesn’t change how well organized the information in the book is, but if small font is an issue, it’s probably around a font size 8 or 9.

Full Content On A Budget

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent for gaming on a budget, it is the full Starfinder rulebook for a fraction of the price of the hardcover. I love hardcovers too, but I'm broke so...

Solid book, solid pricing

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

It's a great price for a physical copy of a core rulebook and has everything you'd need to get started and jump into Starfinder with some friends. I would definitely recommend if hardcover isn't a big deal because it's hard to beat the price while still getting all the same information you'd get in the standard book or the PDF (except for equipment costs which I noticed had different values in the PDF, which caused some discrepancies between player spending in my group.)

Fun system

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I've looked over the book a bit so far and really appreciate the cheaper and condensed version of the rules for a more affordable price. Having a soft (pocket) version will make it easier to get my group invested in the game.
