Times have been hard. To save on money, you've moved out of your old castle and into a luxurious ravine. You didn't like that castle anyway; it was always getting looted, and never at a reasonable hour. And if it wasn't barbarians, it was the plague, or sometimes both would come at once, and there wouldn't be enough chairs. The ravine is great; you get lots of sun, and you can just drop garbage wherever you want. In your free time you've taken up begging. Begging is brilliant conceptually, but tricky in practice, since no one has any money. You beg twigs from the villagers, and they beg them back, but no one really seems to come out ahead. That is just how life is sometimes. You are quietly conquering people, minding your own business, when suddenly there's a plague, or barbarians, or everyone's illiterate, and it's all you can do to cling to some wreckage as the storm passes through. Still, you are sure that, as always, you will triumph over this adversity, or at least do slightly better than everyone else.

This is the 7th addition to the game of Dominion. It is 500 cards but is not a standalone game. It adds 35 new Kingdom cards to Dominion, plus new bad cards you give to other players (Ruins), new cards to replace starting Estates (Shelters), and cards you can get only via specific other cards. The central themes are the trash and upgrading. There are cards that do something when trashed, cards that care about the trash, cards that upgrade themselves, and ways to upgrade other cards.

Contents:

Storage Tray
Rule Booklet

Ages: 13+
Players: 2-4

This is not a stand-alone game. A copy of Dominion or Dominion: Intrigue or Dominion: Base Cards Expansion is required to play.

Amazing expansion

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Definitely the most challenging of the Dominion expansions, thus far! Would absolutely suggest giving it a play!

Two thumbs up for me!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Dark Ages feels very different than any other expansion. 35 kingdom cards for the same price is a great deal. My two favorites are by far the knights, and of course the rats who infest your deck if you're not careful. And the new starting decks are refreshing to say the least. Two thumbs up for me!

Worth playing, but my least favorite Dominion expansion

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I have played a lot of Dominion over the years. I own all the expansion up to Dark Ages. Dominion is a deck building game in which you buy cards to improve your deck and gain victory points. The cards are purchased from stacks of cards that all player's have the ability to purchase from. Cards have a wide variety of abilities that can help you make combinations that work well together and allow you to buy the cards that are worth victory points or sometimes gain victory points directly. Dark Ages has some very interesting and weird abilities. At first I thought that this may be my favorite Dominion expansion while we played through the pre-made sets in the rule book. I really liked how odd the abilities were and it made finding good uses for these weird cards rewarding. However, once we started incorporating them with the rest of our Dominion cards and playing with random sets, it became apparent that many of the Dark Ages cards didn't work as well if there weren't many of them in play. Also, the Dark Ages set has many cards that operate off of trash abilities and I found that Dark Ages cards tended to prolong the game even more so than the Prosperity set. This set I feel is for Dominion enthusiasts only. I think the pre-mades were fun and if you incorporate 4-5 cards in a random set it works. I just think that many of the previous expansions made the game better and more diverse without these requirements. If you really love Dominion and have the prior sets go ahead and buy it. If you're newer to Dominion maybe pick up some of the previous sets first.
