The previous edition shipped with smaller boards and tiny cards which a lot of people hated. And while the quality of the cards in this game could be better, the sizes of everything are back to what they were in the 2nd edition and could be used alongside the 2nd edition. The fact that it now only supports 6 players instead of 8 is a bummer but the painted figures it does ship with are a nice touch. If you like the newer rules for the turn order and damage this will be a great update for you. If you're not a fan of the newer rules but are just looking for new maps to use with your older system, then while pricey, it would work well for that as all of the maps are new and you'd just need a few minor house rules to explain the new icons on the boards. All in all, I think it's a pretty good edition though. It's sort of the best of the 2nd and 3rd editions all wrapped into one. I'll personally probably keep both my 2nd and 4th editions just in case I'm ever looking to play a game with a larger group but for 6 people or less, this will be my new go-to version of the game.

Classic Programmed Movement Game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is a modern reprint of a 30-year-old game. Each round is a spatial puzzle, where you program 5 moves for your robot and try to take advantage of (or avoid) conveyor belts, rotating gears, other robots, etc. I love the game, BUT it is not for everyone. Some of the rules can be difficult to grasp, and mistakes can leave you behind with little hope of catching up. You need to be good-natured about having your robot knocked off course by an opponent. The game lacks a good catch-up mechanic, in my opinion. This new edition is a step up from the 2016 version. The new rules for robot priority are MUCH faster, and the Haywire damage cards are great. Instead of just gumming up your hand, they are automatically placed in the register for the next round. (It is then up to you to incorporate them into your plans.)

Nice update of an old classic

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I have been a long-time fan of Robo Rally. This is a nice update of that game. I am especially looking forward to the two new updated expansions.
