I do not like this thing. HARD GLOSS that is HARD to tamp down.

Average rating of 2 out of 5 stars

Like many reaper add-on products to their MSP paint line, you don't always know what it is/what it does. (most of these can be considered PROS if you want/know that's what you'll get...) 1) This is VERY GLOSSY. pro/con 2) IME, it can OBSCURBE SUBTLE DETAILS AND GRADIENTS... smoothing them out. pro/con, i.e. tide marks might not be as noticeable... 3) It took me two coats of matte varnish (Storm shield? Can't remember what brand i used) to try to tamp down the above two effects, but never fully got there (I didn't want a third layer b/c I wasn't done with the piece 4) not sure of formulation, could be urethane based don't remember... 5) like many reaper add-on products... reading a couple pages/posts on their 100% fan curated/moderated (can be a problem)/contributed forum is sometimes the only way to safely use the product...

Good general purpose sealer/varnish

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The finish seems to be somewhere between matte and gloss. Goes on without much trouble. You'd want something more specialized if you're aiming specifically for a matte or glossy/shiny finish, but this works great as a general sealer.

Keeps the Paint In!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

An excellent sealer, easy to apply and doesn't rob the paint of any luster once it dries.
