Fantasy quest done right
Shadows of Kilforth is a stand alone fantasy quest game which can be combined with Gloom of Kilforth, or not. Shadows adds new heroes, new encounters, new game elements, and new Ancients to defeat. I like the true solo experience this game offers. The replay ability is off the charts when you consider the play variants and the option to combine Kilforth games. Game components are top notch. The card art is fantastic! Wooden tokens are a big plus. The downside of this game is when you don't draw the cards you need or don't roll enough successes on the dice. Even with that said, I keep playing because the adventure is the thing that keeps me coming back to Kilforth.

D&D boiled down
Every game is a D&D campaign boiled down to 2-3 hours. You wander the map searching for encounters to further your character's saga. As the game progresses, the land falls Into gloom, making certain areas dangerous to spend the night in. When you complete your saga, the ancient, the final boss of your saga, comes into play and must be defeated to win the game. The main gripe is the reliance on dice luck. Also, it is possible to lose by building up your character wrong. The ancient HAS TO be defeated with combat, and many of the sagas have interludes that rely on specific attributes. That said, win or lose, the journey still feels worthwhile.
