A Song of Ice & Fire: House Targaryen - Starter Set

Everything that’s needed to get a starting army going and getting things on the table. Highly recommended

The miniatures are great, like all the SOIAF minis from CMON. However, I wish that there was greater diversity in the starter, as calvary are a little squishy and its hard to control an all cavalry force for a beginner to this game.

Great Mini's for the price. Mold lines are not too bad. I recommend cleaning with a de-greaser before painting, and there are some small gaps that will need to be filled. The packaging is great as well. The mini's are numbered, and the packaging match the numbers so you will know where they should go when being put away. No need to buy carrying totes, unless you really want to.

The Targaryen starter set gives you a cavalry army--something not seen before in ASoIF games! Now you have control of a force including Dothraki Screamers, Outriders, and Veterans as well as individuals like Khal Drogo, Daenerys Targaryen, and Jorah Mormont. If you've played the other factions, this might take some getting used to--I personally have trouble with the short bow range of the bow armed troops. The figures as usual are outstanding and can be used for other tabletop roleplaying games like D&D or Pathfinder. You get all the other items included in starter sets, like faction-specific dice, measuring stick, terrain, and rulebook.

I bought the Starter along with a couple of extra boxes of Veterans, Outriders and Hrakkers so this review stands for all of them. Keeping in mind that the SoI&F figures are on the heroic side - say 32mm, they are some of my favorite figures to paint. The Dothraki themselves come off as big beefy body builders - they make the Knights of the Stag and Hedge knights look uncomfortable - each Dothraki - nearly naked from the waist up, fills out the same volume as a Stag Knight in armor. Not a show stopper though - there is always some scale variation in any figure line. I love the animation of the figures. They give a good sense of motion and effort and do NOT look like a unit lined up on parade. They look like a unit in realistic combat.

I'm loving the Targaryen starter set! It had everything I need to jump straight into a game!

To start off, this set of The Targaryen Starter is packed with wonderfully sculpted figures, only two on foot the rest of the box is mounted. Of course, it comes with a rulebook, cardboard markers, cards of various sizes, and some dice. If you either play the Game A Song of Fire and Ice or just like to collect this a great way to help build your forces. It would be after Daenerys Targaryen has crossed and been married to Khal Drogo but this begins the Mother of Dragons on her path.
