Great Expansion
If you're looking to add a bit more depth and reactionary strategy to Everdell this is a great expansion. Also, you can ride big animals which is just fun

Essential
Spirecrest raised Everdell from a game we enjoyed, to one of our favorites. Well worth it.

Fun addition with challenges and additional strategies, but probably for more experienced players
Like this expansion a lot, but believe it should be saved for more experienced players. And maybe pick up the new New Leaf expansion first if you are just looking for some variety, as that adds new card combo options and more cards to the table. But if you want a real challenge and different point strategies, this may be the expansion for you! The best part of the expansion are the Discovery Cards. These can be unique worker placement cards, additional objectives similar to events just for you to earn, or the big critters. These mix up strategic options a lot. The big critters are great, and it's just silly fun to have saddles on them for your regular meeples to ride on. Although it also adds the expedition track for more point options, that can lead to longer turns and evaluations of what strategies are going to garner more points as they require resources or cards to use, that are resources and cards you can no longer use toward other combos or events. The additional challenge comes not just from all of the strategic options available from the Discovery Cards and expedition track, but also from the weather cards. This limit your ability to do certain things or diminish the rewards you get from worker placements. Often this forces you to change strategy for a round, completely upending the plan you made before you ended your season. If you do want a bit more of a brutal challenge with the weather cards and expand the options for points, then this expansion might be perfect for you. If you want more breezy gameplay like the base game starts with, then I would suggest New Leaf as the next step instead.
