Anno 1800 is an epic city-building strategy board game based on Ubisoft's popular PC game of the same name. Players strive to build up their industrial might as they develop an island society at the dawn of the industrial age. Investing in their nautical fleets enables trade and expansion to new territories in the old and new worlds, but players must focus above all on maintaining the health and happiness of the citizens of their home islands. While the population is initially satisfied with food and clothing, in time it will demand valuable luxury goods. Players must plan their development strategies and supply chains carefully while keeping an eye on the distribution of specialized roles within their territories. The objective of the game is to plan for an even distribution of farmers, workers, craftsmen, engineers, and investors. But beware, because the competition never sleeps. Players may steal new achievements out from under each other's noses at any time! Whose island will prosper and whose will fall?

Everybody is working off of everyone else's boards. Good game as you hustle to get the right things shipped.

Complex fun

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of the absolute best games I played all year. It presents itself as an extremely indulgent complex puzzle when you first look at it, but when you zoom out, you realize the entire game is largely built around one mechanism: How do I build the latest gadget? To do so, you'll need to acquire its parts. But therein lies the catch: To acquire those parts, you'll need to acquire these parts. And so on down the ladder. You'll start at the bottom, and first to work their way up will win. I can't say enough good things about this incredible game, so off you go.

I love economic engine building games and this one is great. Setup takes some time but is well worth it. A bonus to my collection.

Love it!

I purchased this game after watching Rahdo do his play thru and someone on BGG forums posting the solo variant. I love the solo mode and can't wait to get this game in front of my gaming group.

Excellent BG adaption of the video game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I’m a longtime fan of the Anno series of video games but I honestly was not expecting much. Martin Wallace pleasantly surprised me with this title. Fun resource management and conversion game whether you have experience with the source material or not.

I had heard a lot of positive buzz around what a delightful game Anno 1800 was all year; I was a little envious of those who were overseas enjoying this great city building game. When I heard Kosmos was picking it up for a North American release I was very excited. In Anno 1800 players are each developing their little home islands. This development occurs through players working on their emerging industrial base and trading with the Old World and New World. All of growth, development and expansion is in service of meeting your populations demands and making a stronger, better community for your home island's citizens. The game play offers a very puzzle approach to tech tree development as each new technology comes with its own required technological prerequisites. It will frequently require growing your population which will in turn lead to you taking on additional population demand cards as well. The core puzzle is about efficently growing a society while managing the population demand cards. I love the game and I am excited to get it to the table again.

A definite keeper

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Played 4x as 2p. Nice twist in worker placement/resource management. Relatively simple rule set, excellent replayability. Games have ranged from 45 min. to 2 hrs. depending on cards drawn, end game goals, strategies pursued. The indeterminate length of the game is always on your mind. Do you have time to pursue more lucrative objectives, or will your opponent(s) rush to end the game (or you them). Game scales well for 2p with no changes, trade works well with 2p, minimal take that, virtually no down time.
