Pretty good, not exactly my cup of tea but I still enjoyed it

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I got this game, I just wanted to try it out and it was pretty cheap so why not? I thought it would be a bit more puzzly, but it is a sequence of riddles with light puzzle elements. For me, that was a mixed bag. For instance, not having played one of these before I wasn't sure about the expectations. Without spoiling anything, I will say that some of the riddles threw me off simply because I didn't know what the game expected me to do. So as a first-timer, I had to rely on the clues a lot. If you have played some of these before, I expect that would be less of a problem. At its best, the game will give you a few of those aha! moments where you realize you were making the wrong assumptions or something and when you finally figure it out it'll feel pretty cool. At its worst, this one has a specific riddle in it that was flat-out misleading. I even looked at both clues and that made it HARDER to solve the riddle so I eventually had to just look at the solution which isn't much fun. As far as I remember, that only happened once, but it left a bad taste for my wife and me and I know she completely lost interest in this game and any future ones because she felt cheated. But this also just isn't her style of game, so honestly, she probably would have lost interest anyway. This riddle is 90% of the reason I knocked a start off, it may have gotten a 5 otherwise. I am on the fence about picking up any more of these. I thought this one was fun, and worth the price, but by the time I sit down to play games I'm usually pretty tired so I'm just not sure I want to think that this hard, or at least not too often. But all of that said, it was fun and different and intriguing. If you like escape room stuff or just riddles and puzzles generally, you will probably enjoy it. The price is great, so can't hurt to at least try one. But if you do, I hear The Secret Lab or some of the other ones are a good starting point, despite this being Novice I probably wouldn't start with this one unless you're prepared to handle a riddle that's a bit....cheap let's say. I've never played the other ones so I'm not sure how typical my experience with these games would be.
