There's a reason they make model specific primer.
First time using model specific primer and oh what a difference it makes. It goes on slow so you need a few extra passes but it really makes details pop. The smell can get pretty over powering quickly so plan accordingly. Even so I won't be hesitating to use Vallejo primers.
