Metal Color is a new range of water-based metallic colors, especially designed for airbrushing. In the development of these new and innovative metallic colors, the latest generation of aluminum pigments has been used in a specifically designed formula which results in a series of colors of exceptional resistance and adherence to plastics and metal. Metal Color can be applied directly on models without the need for the use of a primer, although in the case of fuselages and components for airplane models it is recommended to first apply a glossy Black Primer to bring forth the unique and special quality of the aluminum finish.

Shake well before using. Pour the paint directly into the cup of the airbrush, either undiluted or previously diluted with Thinner 71.261. Colors can be mixed in the cup of the airbrush. Metal Color dries almost instantly on the model and permits immediate application of aging processes such as the use of washes, pigments, and dry-brush techniques. It is however recommended to wait an hour or so of curing time before manipulating the fresh layer of paint.

Fine Quality with Interesting Properties

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This line of metallics from Vallejo came highly recommended. and I couldn't find any reviews suggesting it wasn't at least worth trying. Now I will say that while I use these with a brush, they are definitely intended for airbrushing given the volume and the consistency. They are pre-thinned and have a flow-improver additive and/or drying retardant or something that certainly makes the paint glide around with ease. Even so, I found they cover quite well over a black undercoat. I bought 3 different steel/silver colors, and all 3 provide a really nice finish for miniatures. The metallic powder is so fine, that you get that reflective property you want with TMM, without the graininess of some other acrylic metallic. That being said, I would not use these as a full on replacement for the metallics you are currently using and prefer (I like Scale75 or AP), but rather as a supplement. Given how thin this paint is, and how readily it flows, I find it is too difficult to use when brush painting smaller details; it's very tricky to put it exactly where you want it - gets sloppy fast. As a basecoat however, either with a brush, or preferably with an airbrush, it's awesome. Despite its consistency, only a coat or two is needed, and still no danger of obscuring details with it. Depending on the tone you want, you can then drybrush/wash/highlight over it as normal. You can still drybrush with these, as the pigment is super fine, but you do have to dry off your brush more than you think you should. When it's time to highlight, I do my edging with Scale75 over it because it's thicker and offers more control for brush work, but still has fine pigment.

Vallejo Metal Colors - Amazing and ready to go.

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The new line of Vallejo Metal Colors are really easy to use and will make any modelling project stand out with professional results. This latest line by Vallejo is acrylic; meaning, there's no foul smell, and clean-up is easy to do with water. If you have used an airbrush and had to thin down your paints so it could spray properly, you wont need to with these. Now, all you need to do is choose your color, (or make your own blend) and pour it straight from the bottle into your resevoir. Vallejo states that they have "designed a formula which results in a series of colors of exceptional resistance and adherence to plastics and metal". That is to say that they have greater ease of use and better results than most products up until now.
