Epic Battle Scale (15mm)

With the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the tension between the Northern and Southern States boiled over into outright hostility. Birthed in the South, the Confederacy fought to maintain its independency whilst Northern troops headed south in a bid to preserve the union. Four years of hellish fighting ensued, consuming the nation. It was a war the likes of which the Americas had not seen before, and would never again.

It is one of the most studied military conflicts in history, with over 237 named battles in addition to innumerable minor actions and skirmishes. Tactically, battles were still largely linear - regiments frequently fired all their ammunition only to be relieved by a second wave of troops passing through the line. However, the technology of war had become all the more destructive, and casualty rates were atrocious, leading to some historians citing the warfare of the American Civil War to be a precursor to that of the 1st World War over 50 years later.

The Epic Battles system allows for gamers to refight these battles on a huge scale. The game is based on the familiar award-winning Black Powder rules system, with a few period-flavour tweaks to cement the battles in the ideologies of American Civil War doctrines.

This box set contains no less than 2400 men. Each of the two armies are presented on colour-coded plastic sprues; the push-fit pieces are extremely easy to assemble - enabling you to quickly get to the business of gaming this fascinating era of history on the epic scale it deserves. You'll also find some MDF scenery to lend your battles extra authenticity.

A newby tries the Black Powder ruleset for ACW

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The product was just as described. Nice detail for ~15mm (BP says they are 13.5mm). Assembly is easy. Everything arrived in excellent condition. The BP rulebook print is a pretty tiny font. Key aspects of the rules could be organized better. Without an experienced person for guidance, it takes a while to get the flow of the rules. Overall, an approachable set of rules without a lot of fiddliness.

Awesome set

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great set for getting into ACW gaming. It's got a ton of minis and scenery. It really is a great value. Especially when you consider everything included. The only negative, I guess, is that all the minis are the same. On the upside they're in blue and grey plastic so really you don't even have to paint them if you don't want to. I'm definitely pleased with it

EPIC INDEED!!!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

As someone who has always enjoyed the black powder ruleset and never bothered to try any different scales than 28mm for said ruleset this is a refreshing release. This set looks absolutely FANTASTIC on tabletop assembled up. I purchased more than one of these and the sheer amount of units on the table really brings out the feeling of epic scale warfare. the best part? It takes up much less table space. Things to note -Sculpts are the same for both sides but this isn't really an issue in my opinion due to size. -Hats choices are a little inaccurate due to the sculpt being the same for both sides -Table size requirement is smaller however the width of the units in formation are quite long. This can be fixed by simply going from 5 wide to 3 wide (Its fairly simple to do) and you end up with extra units. They paint up nice and easy as there are very few spots with hard to reach details. I found it pretty easy to paint simple tabletop quality as well as go back and touch them up with highlighting and effects. Last point of interest is that many people have stated they do not scale well with other games. I'm not sure if it's okay to list products in a review but currently they scale perfectly with the other 3 ACW miniature companies I have units from. In fact I think the slightly custom scale that is used makes it even better because if you mix units it better represents different sizes and differences between each individual.

Great set!

I got two! Black powder rule book included. It’ll take awhile to get them painted up (I have 48 regiments, after all) but I can’t wait.

Epic in a box

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The rules are simple enough. The book offers a little to much fluff but does make one think of other wars to invest in. The only draw back is the limited poses on the models.

Truly an epic set. Unfortunately there is so much in this set one of the booklets was shredded across the front cover. Also, the finish of the main rule book was dinged up.. please note these figures are perfect for replacing the blocks from the Worthington game American Civil War.

15mm or not this set is a great value. Tons of units and everything you need to recreate huge battles. sculpts are great (Granted they are identical which is kind of a let down) MDF building and fences are also high quality and look great. Side note; People have been saying they are some Arbritrary totally unique scale. While semi-true, they do scale next to other 15mm ACW just fine. kaillistra and the like.
