The USS Constitution was one of the American "super frigates" built at the end of the 18th century. She was nicknamed "Old Ironsides" by her crew due to shots bouncing off her hull during several engagements. She is most noted for her actions during the War of 1812 against the British, when she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated various Royal Navy warships.
