Star Realms and all its expansions are pretty much all the same. Star Realms is not for everyone. It is a battle deck builder and can be frustrating at times as the game can swing out of nowhere. If you’ve played the core game you’ve more or less played all the expansions. The variety of cards is fantastic. They’re all mostly different but don’t expect mind blowing new features to actual game play. The expansions add to the fun that already there and don’t add anything uniquely new. It’s a game that if you become a fan of it you’ll continue to love it. A great intro game to the deck building mechanism and genre. The theme is fun and the head to head nature is also fun if you like take that’s. For me and my wife, we enjoy take that games and we love deck builders.

First Full Expansion for a Great Game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

The Star Realms game is a light, inexpensive deck building game. This is the first full expansion. It adds some real variety to the game with the Gambit cards without over complicating a beautifully simple and balanced base game. The price per card is a little out of whack with the base game, but that is not abnormal for expansions in general. From a fun and enjoyment perspective, though, it is well worth it, and a must-have if you like Star Realms. I wish all the cards in the iOS Gambit expansion where in this pack, but I think many were promo cards and/or Kickstarter exclusives.

Adds just a touch more to Star Realms

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Star Realms is a fun, inexpensive, lightweight deck builder, and is a lot of fun right out of the starter box. Several small expansion exist for the game, however, and the Gambit Set is one of the first. The Gambit Set adds Gambits, something of a special power/interrupt card, that provides a powerful (usually), one time bonus for the player at a time of his choosing. Players can choose how many Gambits they would like to play with at the beginning of a game, and these are kept face down until the player decides to execute its action. As with the other expansions, this expansion set does not make or break Star Realms, but adds just another light touch of interest to the game. Star Realms is a lightweight game, and fairly short, so the expansions wisely insert only small (but effective) changes. At its price point, Star Realms is an easy game to get into, and adding the expansions like the Gambit Set is really not much of a question. If you have Star Realms, grab this. If you are buying Star Realms, grab this with it.
