Malifaux 3E: Guild - Nellie Core Box

The Nellie Core Box, the news is a little mixed. The mini's ultimately are great looking and unique in the mini-gaming space (a crew of victorian steam punk journalists....that's pretty cool). However putting them together without inflicting any harm to them is no easy task. I came to this with a couple of decades of mini building and gaming experience and this was one of the more frustrating and difficult builds I've done in sometime. There are a lot of small pieces that need to be eyeballed into place (as in no slot, or guide piece made into the miniature) and more than a few of these pieces are quite fragile. In general the plastic itself felt a brittle and on th cheaper side and while cleaning them (ie the little sports after clipping them from the sprues) I came close to damaging several parts. I understand Wyrd games has gotten better about this stuff as time goes on, but this set....was not a fun time to assemble.

This is the first set of Malifaux hard plastic minis I have purchased. They have superb detail and very minimal mold lines. Each miniature is divided up into an alarming number of smaller pieces, but I enjoy the modeling side of the hobby, so it should be a fun challenge. It was a bit of a shock to find no assembly instructions in the box, but I can appreciate having them online to save paper. The note on the box telling you where to find those instructions is far too small, though. The included stat cards are high quality, and the box art will make a good reference for painting. I was pleasantly surprised to find this is essentially a standard-sized crew, not just an introductory force. Very much looking forward to getting them on the table!
