Pathfinder Battles Deep Cuts Unpainted Minis: W4 Familiars (Owl, Frog, & Cat)

As a beginning painter, I’m a big fan of the Deep Cuts line because they are cheap enough to not worry about messing up and have enough detail to let me feel creative and to encourage me to use a variety of colors and actively learn to think about a color scheme. The deeper grooves also mean I have more wiggle room to learn things such as thinning my paints. If I don’t water them down enough I can tell, but it doesn’t fill in the grooves irredeemably because they are so thick. These gnomes are also super fun. Be warned though that this line of models is roughly sized with itself appropriately, so gnomes are going to be very small. If you’re just looking for minis to learn painting on then I’d suggest one of the other races in this line. But if you really want to paint a gnome then these still shouldn’t be too hard. I usually try and prime my models no matter what, but I tried painting one of these without putting my own primer on first for the sake of the review, and didn't have any issues with paint rubbing off or not sticking The eyes on these deepcuts tend to be a little off and you do get mold lines. But nothing unfixable or awful.

These make great familiar to start off with, great quality and easy to paint.

These are excellent little figures to expand your wizards presence on the board. Each is intricate in detail and paints up nicely. A bit of wash really pops out the look.

Nice tiny familiars

Smaller than I expected but excellent quality plastic. The details were perfect for my son, who is learning to paint minis, but in comparing the painted examples on the back of the box, I couldn't line up all the details they seemed to be bring out in the mold. High quality product, will definitely buy from this line again (just hopefully something a big large)

These are great minis for familiars or pets. I have a group that likes to adopt strays so these are amazing!

We love how these miniatures help is to realize a more immersive D&D atmosphere.

I was largely just looking for a frog/toad familiar for an upcoming encounter; but the fact that there is also a cat and an owl in this pack is even better! I can't tell you how often I throw cats into settlements, hoping my players will befriend one. Maybe with a mini on the table, someone will finally do just that.

Fantastic quality! The detail in these minis is amazing, and worth more than the price. You can literally count every tiny feather on the owl. I’m new to d&d and minis in general, but these are so much nicer than I expected.
