The first expansion for Duel for Cardia introduces a new kind of cards: Guardians. They come in the shape of animals and fantastic beasts and give you a bonus if you play the right faction at the right time. Similar to locations, the Guardians are placed in the middle, but between encounters.
At the beginning, 6 Guardians are dealt face down, one for every other encounter. Each Guardian has a unique ability and belongs to one of the four faction. It's effect is activated if you play a card of the belonging faction in the encounter where the Guardian is placed. There are 3 different Guardians for each faction, offering a lot of replayability.
