Small and Affordable but Good
Good small expansion. What it does it create an alternate starting state for the board. This is excellent because none of the other expansions do this. This introduces the idea of what if the dwarves lost the Battle of the Five Armies? And so Erebor and Iron Hills would be changed by placing some tiles on the board that would cover up a few settlements. It's an affordable expansion that helps a lot for players that want to have more interaction in the upper right corner Middle-Earth and want to change things up.

Great Mini Expansion
I think of this as a mini-expansion. It comes with a few tiles to place over some regions on the board and tells you how to set up the minis differently. It's supposed to set up the situation where what if the orcs had won the battle of the five armies? This is good because then you get more tension with the dwarves at the north-east side of the board, although fewer dwarves would be available. It's a good price for something small that will spice up your game.

Another Awesome Expansion!
This expansion adds a new aspect to the game by placing a Shadow stronghold right next to a Free Peoples city. It provides a better opportunity for the Free Peoples to go on the offensive, but it also can make an easy point for the Shadow if the Free player doesn't get on the ball with pushing the Dwarven nation towards war. The expansion also has an optional setup within the expansion itself that puts a city in both Ered Luin and South Rhun. This can be a bit of a problem for the Free Peoples by introducing a new city they have to defend. Without the extra cities, there is a shift of two points in choices for the Shadow player, because it removes Erebor and Dale while making the Iron Hills a city. This can help balance the game if you find that the Shadow keeps overrunning you too quickly for you to act. In short, a good addition to War of the Ring, just as the other expansions are.

Solid but not essential.
The Fate of Erebor is a solid expansion that loosely ties in The Hobbit and Ares Battle of the Five Armies. It's good, but not essential. Also, it seems to favor the Shadow. Recommended, but for completionists only.

Adds a wrinkle.
If you want a small adjustment to the strategy, this delivers.

Great mini expansion
Variable setup, anything extra for this game is great in my book!
