Aquatica 2E: Cold Waters Expansion

I adore the base game of this, and the expansion only makes it better. The tribes are such a fun edition!

Very good for what it adds for the price point. More variability with a 5th location, more kings and cards to draft. The Tribes expansion adds a different way to score. It does make the game longer but more strategic, so if you like shorter games you can play without. When using Tribes, it removes the endgame condition of 4 mantas used, so you trigger endgame with only running through the decks. Still a bit conflicted, if I like the shorter games compared to the longer version with Tribes. Nice to have this option depending on mood.

Additional content great. Amazing art. Card quality is good as well. Check this out if you want to expand the base game.

Fun expansion I can't wait to get it to the table again

The only thing I found a little lackluster with the base game was the goals triggering end of game. This version optionally replaces that with the Tribe Module which I liked a lot more. Also the new cards are a simple addition that add more fun stuff. This is also one of the few times where an expansion adding a 5th player is actually worth it since turns are so fast.

The base game was a lot of fun and the expansion offers more. It fits perfectly in the base game box.

This is a fantastic expansion for the base game. Adds more variety, an extra player, and changes endgame to be far more interesting than a race to simple objectives without adding more then 30 seconds more rules. Pretty much a textbook case of an essential expansion. If you like Aquatica get this.

On one hand, this expansion adds variety to the base game with new characters, locations and a couple of new kings and goals, as well as components for a 5th player. Keep in mind though, that if you play with less than 5 players, you have to remove a certain number of characters and locations, so the set-up and tear-down time is increased. On the other hand, the expansion adds a variant for the goals in the base game. Instead of racing for completing objetives, players can now buy a new type of card that give different bonuses and scoring opportunities. Everything in the expansion is of very high quality as in the base game and it provides high variability to the game, specially with the new characters cards (in the base game you had very few different types).
