It is the mid-1880s in the Southwest United States. The small mining town of Brimstone has struck it rich when they discovered large deposits of a new precious mineral called Dark Stone up in the hills. It has magical properties, is rarer than gold, and is incredibly dangerous! In a flash, the town of Brimstone is consumed, the epicenter of a cataclysmic supernatural explosion, ripping open portals to other worlds down in the mines, and unleashing a great Darkness to spread across the land! Now hordes of demons pour form the mines to ravage the countryside, and the sky grows black with swarms of nightmarish creatures. A few brave souls step forward and form a posse of Heroes to hold back the Darkness!
Swamps of Death is a fast-paced, fully cooperative, dungeon-crawl board game set in the Old West, with a heavy dose of unspeakable horror! Players create characters, taking on the role of a classic Western Hero Archetype, such as the Law Man, Gunslinger, or Saloon Girl. Forming an adventuring posse, the Heroes venture down into the dark mines, overrun with all manner of ancient demons and foul creatures from another world. With tactical gameplay, lots of dice, and a robust card-driven exploration system, no two games are ever the same as the heroes explore the mines finding new enemies to fight, new loot to collect, and new dangers to overcome. Players can even find portals to other worlds, stepping through to continue their adventures on the other side!
An exciting campaign system allows the players to visit local frontier towns between adventures, spending their hard-earned loot and building their characters from game to game! As players find fantastic gear and artifacts to equip their heroes, they also gain experience from their adventures. This experience is used to level up, guiding the hero's path through an expansive, class-specific upgrade tree of new skills and abilities, allowing each player to develop their hero to fit their own play style.
In Swamps of Death, players will encounter portals to the otherworld Jargono, a humid swampland inhabited by sentient reptiles, vicious dinosaurs and a tribe of humanoids, cut off from return to their homeworld untold years after their own portal closed. So load up yer' six shooter, throw on yer' hat and poncho, and gather the posse as the darkness is coming, and all hell's about to break loose!
This Revised Edition Core Set features all new plastic miniatures that are easy to assemble, with fantastic detail. With updated Rulebooks and cards; fully compatible with all existing expansions. This game includes a full set of interlocking, double-sided Map Tiles, featuring the Old West Mines on one side and the overgrown, murky Swamps of Jargono on the other. As the Heroes step through a gateway to another world, they find themselves in the savage and unforgiving Swamps of Death!

Another Great Starting point
This edition adds a lot of variety with new characters and enemies to expand City of Ancients. I am excited about to try out some of the new heroes.

Looking to expand upon the game, or even invest in your first core set for the game? Why not both! The game offers full versatility, allowing you to play simply with a core set such as Swamps of Death, however if like me you like to expand on your collection with more rooms to explore, enemies to encounter and new events that unfold, then miniature market have you covered right here. Think you’ve got what it takes to become a hero?

Better of the two core sets, but glad I started with the other
I love Shadows of Brimstone. I started with City of the Ancients and it was great for learning the rules and getting into the whole world of the game. Swamps of Death has truly made my collection feel more complete, adding a more interesting other world, fantastic minis (the revised edition minis are a nice improvement over the original quality), and a spellcaster / magic user character class! The priest/nun is a very nice addition to the overall system. I would recommend against getting Swamps of Death as your first core set in SoB. If you get hooked on the game like I did, starting with SoD and then expanding with CoA, you might feel disappointed in the few new mechanics added with CoA. SoD adds so much to the core, that it feels more like an expansion rather than a second copy of the game. Bottom line, I love Shadows of Brimstone, and if you're just starting out or curious, I would suggest starting with the other core set. Swamps of Death is fantastic, and I highly recommend it in addition to City of Ancients, but I feel you may be disappointed going from SoD to CoA instead of CoA to SoD.

This second edition includes more detailed sculpts which also assemble better. Other changes include: An assembly guide, a painting guide (inside the rulebooks), updated rules and cards. If you know this game, you know what to expect..,. if you don´t know it and you like old west. Lovecraft, character progression and dungeon crawlers...this is a must.

Revised and improved
First off, I’m very impressed with the models. They are fairly easy to assemble and arrived with little to no mold lines. Second, the card and tokens are all of high quality. There’s also nice reference sheets included. The instruction book is well laid out and full of color art. Overall well packaged and complete. Even includes a cd soundtrack for themed background music while playing the game.

Excellent update to a modern classic
The original game was strong enough to carry Flying Frogs for years now. The revised version is better than I expected. The new minis are much improved and, more importantly, the many, many small tweaks and revisions really help to balance and clarify the game. Happy to have purchased the revised version despite being an original Kickstarter backer.
