Ready yourself! New invaders enter the world of Root in the Marauder Expansion, which adds two new factions and four hirelings.
Play as the:
• Lord of the Hundreds - Oppress the Woodland and burn it to the ground if need be. You suffer no dissent.
• Keepers in Iron - Lead your exiled order of devout knights into battle to recover ancient relics. For glory!
Play with the:
• Forest Patrol & Feline Physicians - Secure your realm and heal deadly injuries with Marquise elites.
• Last Dynasty & Bluebird Nobles - Crush your foes and prove your legitimacy with the last Eyrie regiment.
• Spring Uprising & Rabbit Scouts - Revolt against despots and fight for freedom with Alliance sympathizers.
• The Exile & The Bandit - Stalk the forests and steal what you need with these Vagabond mercenaries.
This expansion includes some extra pieces so you can update your game - you might find them handy if you have early printings of Root and its expansions! First, there are score markers for all of the earlier factions that use factions faces rather than "VP". Second, there is an extra set of Underworld Expansion relationship markers to account for games with two Vagabonds.

Great expansion!
love this expansion! the two factions are quite enjoyable.

Love the new factions.
The factions are awesome and enjoyed playing playing them with other factions.

Best expansion yet!
Of the three Root expansions currently out this is my favorite. While the Corvid faction, from the Underworld expansion, may be my favorite both the Rats and the Badgers offer awesome new play experiences. And while the new boards in the Underworld expansion add a new type of variety the addition of the hirelings in the Marauders box really helps the game work even better at all player counts and adds variability of its own. If you enjoy Root and want something more I highly recommend this expansion. Just make sure that, if you are a newer player, you wait to try the badgers, The Keepers in Iron, until you feel more confident in playing the more complex factions!

just don't let those rats get out of hand early
The Lord of the Hundreds might, certainly, be one of my favorite factions to play; but, it will never be one of my favorite factions to play against. These rats just swarm! And, unless you get on them fast, they're likely to take and hold an early lead. I would only allow the Hundreds to be played in a multi-player game in which other players can form temporary alliances to keep the rats in check. The Keepers in Iron faction is a nice addition all around. These badgers have their own agenda can play it out in cleverly unusual ways. The hirelings to help balance things out in two-player games is a welcome addition.

Every Root fan needs it
I've bought every Root expansion and, if I had one minor complaint, it would be the shortage of military factions, limiting faction choices especially at lower player counts. This expansion, by adding 2 new military factions, restores the balance.
