Fantastic mid level complexity game for the whole family.
Fantastic tactical wargame disguised as cutesy forest animals. Each faction plays asymmetrically, leaving each experience playing it unique.

Great assymetrical war game!
As good as everyone has been saying it is! If you've been curious about Root, go ahead and try it out!

Beautiful and Maddening
Only a few games into Root and it is definitely a very rewarding game, both in terms of physical appearance and gameplay. The price point is higher than other games but this is a reflection of the quality of the workmanship of the game. Root is an asymmetrical wargame dressed-up as cute fluffy woodland critters. Outside of the art, there is nothing cute and fluffy about the game -- success depends upon being ruthless while balancing upon the need to not appear as the biggest threat and, therefore, becoming the target for all of the other players. Each player plays a different woodland society, with different rules of play and strategy, generally seeking area control but not always. Gameplay is relatively fast once one knows the rules and is a genuine joy to play.

Great from the start!
As a big fan of the Redwall series of books, Root was instantly appealing to me. While many will talk about how difficult Root is to play, that only applies if you're constantly bringing new players in. If you have a stable gaming group, few other games can provide the variety, strategy, and surprisingly cutthroat atmosphere that Root does. Be prepared to do some homework, but once the game gets going it's great!

Each faction plays like they're from different games. A small learning curve, but after a few turns each person will understand what they're doing. For a first-time buyer, I highly recommend getting the Partisans and Exiles pack to go along with it.

Leder Games, we're ROOTing for you
Root knocks it out of the park on so many levels for me. The copy I got was from the 8th printing and at this point, they've figured out how to teach and explain it to newcomers. The art is gorgeous, and the pieces are dripping with personality as they scatter across the board. The gameplay isn't a slouch either. It's that sort of push/pull that's kept my group on the edge of our seats as our animal armies crash back and forth against each other. Giving different objectives with the dominance cards gives the game an unpredictability that keeps people focused on the battles that reshape the land. It's a forest I'll visit again and again.

Root is great
The asymmetrical gameplay means every time you play a new faction it feels like an entirely new game. But each faction has a pretty good chance of winning, as we’ve had three different factions win in the three games we’ve played. Add that to a lovely Redwall-esque aesthetic and this game has instantly become one of my new favorites
